DRS Company

DRS Consolidated Controls, Inc., is a leading supplier of instrumentation & control systems for the U.S. Navy and industry critical applications. Products include high-performance networks, shipboard actuator controls, tactical displays and specialty reactor plant instrumentation and control equipment. The Division designs, qualifies and manufactures products that help people every day on the ground, sea and in the air. We operate on a 9/80 work schedule, all employees work 80 hrs in 9 days and have every other Friday off. 

 

 

Position Summary

This position will partner with technical experts throughout the company and will be accountable for understanding customer needs and providing meaningful, proactive technical solutions. 

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Embedded software development
  • Software detailed design and coding
  • Develop technical concepts and proposals, including cost/schedule estimates
  • Gather and clarify Customer requirements
  • Participate in software design reviews
  • Integration and test support for hardware-software systems
  • Generate design and code documentation to company standards
  • Present results to customer; respond to comments and questions

 

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science (Masters of Science a plus)
  • U.S. Citizen required (Recent U.S. Security Clearance a plus)
  • 10-15 years experience in control systems, military electronics
  • 3-5 years experience in systems design
  • Experience working in a disciplined software development process (ISO/CMM/CMMI)
  • Nuclear Control systems knowledge a plus
  • Experienced development with real-time operating systems
  • Experience with Microsoft Office ( Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Accepts ownership of assigned projects and meets deadlines
  • Codes and debugs software in C Language using a Windows environment (C++, Java, XML, Visual Basic, or Assembly a plus)
  • Developing code for MC68xxx and Intel Pentium

 

 

 

Additional Desirable Qualifications Skills and Knowledge

  • Experience with Paradigm C++ Professional, and Microtec Compilers, American Arium emulators and debuggers
  • Experience with MS Visual Basic, MS Access
  • Able to convert technical and functional requirements into a software concept and architecture
  • Effective multi-tasker, able to demonstrate ability to handle changing work assignments, schedules and priorities in a deadline driven environment
  • Knowledgeable in both structured and object-oriented programming techniques
  • Generates clear and well-organized design documentation (Familiarity with UML a plus)
  • Familiar with use of emulators to debug software on circuit cards
  • Has experience with generating technical proposals
  • Knowledgeable in verification and validation of systems
  • Comfortable interacting with and presenting to Customers and Management
  • Proactive change agent with demonstrative experience in identifying process inefficiencies and working with others to provide and assist in implementing innovation solutions
  • Capable of traveling within USA, 5-10%
