DRS Consolidated Controls, Inc

DRS Consolidated Controls, Inc. (DRS-CCI) is the premier supplier of instrumentation & control systems for critical applications in U.S. Navy ships. DRS CCI is a leading innovator and supplier of shipboard hydraulic to electric actuation conversion solutions that reduce construction and lifecycle costs. Since the 1960s DRS CCI, under our Consolidated Controls legacy name brand, has provided Nuclear Regulatory Commission certified safety, and non-safety, analog and digital distributed controls systems for US and international nuclear power plants. Products include shipboard control systems and panels, high-performance networks, tactical displays, controllers, circuit cards, detectors/transmitters, and specialty reactor plant instrumentation and control equipment. The division designs, qualifies and manufactures products that help our sailors maintain our nation’s maritime supremacy and our industrial customers to operate safely and efficiently.  We operate on a 9/80 work schedule with core works of 80 hrs in 9 days and every other Friday off.

 

Position Summary

Applies in-depth skills in development of strategic relationships with customers and industry partners. Leads the implementation and management of proposal development, market analysis and customer prospecting for DRS-PCT. General technical skills and experience in nuclear control and automation systems is applied to development and realization of market opportunities. A key member of the Business Development Team, the incumbent will contribute to the exploitation of emerging market trends in nuclear controls and automation system technology implementation. Strategic planning and plan implementation are critical factors of this position.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Astutely serves the interests of customers through alignment of DRS product and service offerings with customer needs. Works within a teaming environment comprised of marketing, technical and business experts to ensure that only the highest level of customer satisfaction is achieved while living within DRS business constraints.
  • Obtain and maintain marketplace intelligence and data so as to develop strategic and tactical plans based on an integrated analysis of markets, target customers, competitive analysis, and DRS product development initiatives and the vision for DRS Power Systems. As necessary, recommend product changes and development programs supported through customer, market and business analysis.
  • Plan, coordinate, and give multi-product technical and commercial presentations to customer decision makers. Develop good working relationships with key customer personnel through frequent contact with customer engineering and purchasing professionals and management.
  • Sell products and services working through customer engineering and purchasing personnel focusing on product and service technical adequacy and cost effectiveness.
  • Assists in the leadership of Account Managers and Marketing Engineers who may be geographically dispersed; collaborates extensively with peers in geographically dispersed DRS Power Systems Divisions.
  • Participate in development of product upgrades/evolutions and recommend product improvements. Define customer and market needs, review technical adequacy, recommend market strategies, and prepare initial offerings.
  • Leads proposal development and project teams in the development of formal and professional proposals for products and services. Guides marketing, technical and customer teams in defining requirements; participates with senior management and proposal teams in development of “win” strategies for pursued opportunities. Makes bid/no-bid recommendations based on a wide variety of factors that may exist in any combination for each opportunity. 
  • Leads contract negotiation teams in compliance with DRS policies.
  • Generates proposal logs and proposal status reports; monthly, annual and multi-year bookings, revenue and profit forecasts.
  • Assists in the development of technical sales literature and material. Prepares technical articles for publication in industry trade journals; participates in trade shows and customer seminars.
  • Travels routinely and on short notice to customer and business locations. Periods of frequent domestic and international travel are required.

 

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science degree or equivalent work experience required. Masters Degree preferred.
  • Detail oriented, highly organized and able to effectively multi-task without a high degree of supervision
  • Demonstrated broad technical understanding of nuclear power plants, instrumentation, safety, and control systems through real work experience within the industry.
  • Incumbent will be the voice of DRS when representing DRS Power Systems to the customer. A high degree of integrity and compliance with DRS Code of Business Conduct and Code of Ethics is required.
  • Solid negotiating and networking skills

 

Additional Desirable Qualifications Skills and Knowledge

  • Strong knowledge of Commercial Nuclear Power Plants
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products
