Job Title: ABA Counselor
Department: Residential
General Responsibilities:
The ABA Counselor-Residential is responsible for providing instruction to assigned individuals in their assigned setting to promote intellectual, emotional and social growth. He or she will assist in implementing individualized programs that are appropriate to the ages and populations served specifically children, adolescents, and young adults with autism, intellectual/developmental disabilities and acquired brain injury. The ABA Counselor-Residential will typically be assigned to a home but may be required to work with individuals from other homes, as assigned by supervisors.
Populations served are intensely physically challenging. The ABA Counselor position requires that staff be aware that individuals who are served may exhibit aggressive and/or self-injurious behavior. This requires the ABA Counselor-Residential to be constantly alert and ready to respond to the individual’s needs according to effective behavior analytic interventions.
Basic Qualifications
Education/Training: Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred; Minimum requirement of 50 College Credits.
Certifications/Licensure: A valid US driver’s license and a minimum age of twenty-one (21) years old. Must be capable of attaining approved Melmark driver status. Successful completion of employer provided certification in CPR, First Aid, Medication Administration and Crisis Intervention.
Skill(s): Working knowledge of Windows Operating Systems and Microsoft Office. Possess strong teaching skills with emphasis on individuals who are emotionally, behaviorally, physically and/or developmentally challenged. Ability to implement function based interventions for the reduction of challenging behaviors. Experience in the principles and application of Applied Behavior Analysis. Strong interpersonal and leadership skills are assets.
Experience: Prefer at least one (1) year experience with specialized populations.
