AC Equipment Mechanic

About the Job

The Authority is seeking a highly motivated and energetic AC Equipment Mechanic.

The AC Equipment Mechanic repairs, modifies, and maintains equipment and systems involved in climate control by means of mechanical compression or absorption to provide air conditioning.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Performs a wide variety of tests using a myriad of test equipment to ascertain the actual condition of systems, equipment and/or components.

• Performs a variety of troubleshooting requirements to ascertain the cause(s) of problems and/or malfunctions on various heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems.

• Performs necessary corrective maintenance requirements to identify the cause(s) of reported problems and restore to working condition.

• Performs required preventive maintenance procedures.

• Modifies systems and equipment as required.

• Operates Authority vehicles as an essential function of the position. Maintains vehicles and/or equipment in a clean and orderly manner. Reports any operating deficiencies to the appropriate Authority personnel.

• Performs other related duties and projects as assigned at the discretion of the supervisor.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate and four (4) years of experience related to the repair and modification of a variety of equipment and systems that achieve regulated climatic conditions.

• Must posses and maintain a valid Motor Vehicle Operating License and a DC WASA Vehicle Endorsement.

• Must possess and maintain a Refrigerant Recovery Certification (for Type I and II Refrigerants).

• Must possess and maintain a valid Journeyman License for Air Conditioning and Refrigeration from any jurisdiction.

• Must posses and maintain a valid District of Columbia Journeyman License for Air Conditioning and Refrigeration within 12 months from hire date. Failure to obtain a DC Journeyman License within 12 months from hire date will result in termination of employment.


OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

1. Knowledge of the HVAC trade, including National and District building codes, ANSI, ASME, ARI, and UL standards, air conditioning, and mechanical manufactures guides and functional drawings. Knowledge of the characteristics and physical layout of HVAC distribution systems and air control equipment.

2. Knowledge of basic electrical and electronic principles, formulas, electrical symbols, color codes, pneumatic and hydraulic principles to accurately service highly complex and intricate service handling systems. Ability to read and interpret electrical wiring prints, schematic, and functional diagrams, drawings, and instruction manuals, written instructions and/or procedures.

3. Ability to use hand and power tools, oxygen-acetylene cutting equipment, etc.

4. Ability to lift 50 lbs.

5. Performs work from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms where parts or systems maybe frequently hard to reach. Performs work functions requiring stooping, bending, and/or kneeling for long periods of time.

6. In the event that an offer is extended, the candidate will be required to successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination and drug screening.
