ASSISTANT TRANSPORTATION MGR

Responsible for providing customer satisfaction at the lowest possible cost. Accountable for private fleet operations, inbound traffic, outbound deliveries, staff development and morale, customer service, project management, productivity and financial metrics. Liaison between DC operations and Transportation.


 


1) Supervise team of 20-25 drivers. Recruit and train current and future driver pool, dispatch and Mechanics. Conduct performance reviews and administer discipline as necessary.


2) Insure regulatory compliance to meet DOT, FMC, and OSHA regulations


3) Coordinate efforts between DC operations and fleet to maximize service while minimizing expense (IE: Cube Utilization, Trailer Stripping, Backhaul Unload, Split Loads, etc.).


4) Review period statements and KPI's. Analyze cause and effect on line items. Provide feedback and initiate change to improve performance.


5) Function as Transportation Manager in absence of the TM. Travel to other DC's to fill in as Lead Transportation person. Provide "on-call" support as needed.



COLLEGE DEGREE IN TRANSPORTATION, LOGISTICS OR BUSINESS FIELD PREFERRED. 3+ YEARS OF TRANSPORTATION EXPERIENCE PREFERRED.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook)


Financial analysis / costing models / math skills


Thorough understanding and interpretation of DOT and OSHA regulations. DQ Files, Hours of Service, PM requirements.


Ability to learn and utilize the potential of our fleet systems. XATA, Manugistics, Inovis, Datastream, Access Databases

Ability to prioritize tasks and operate in a fast paced environment.


 


Ability to maneuver through storage racks, trailers, and other areas of the warehouse. Requires ability to use office equipment including, but not limited to, phone, keyboard, monitor, and calculator. Must be able to communicate effectively, both in person and on the telephone. Could be asked to provide physical activity including, but not limited to, sitting, standing, bending, stooping, lifting (up to 50 lbs.), and walking (up to 80% of day). Could be asked to operate equipment found in a distribution center environment including, but not limited to, material handling equipment.
