The Standard & Poor's Corporate & Government Ratings group is seeking an Associate to cover a portfolio of companies in the Consumer Sector.
 
The position is in our Chicago office; however, candidates must be willing to travel to NY on occasion and will be asked to spend an initial period of time working out of the New York office for training purposes.
 
The  Director will have primary responsibility for a portfolio of 20-25 consumer products companies. Key responsibilities will include:
  • Continuous monitoring of operating performance of the rated companies, including review of public filings, private information supplied by issuers, and participation in client meetings

  • Analysis of various debt financings and preparation of rating committee recommendations

  • Preparation of press releases, company specific reports and industry commentaries in a fast paced environment with publication deadlines

  • Management of client meetings in support of the analytical and rating process

  • Handling of new capital markets transactions including complex bank loan financings

  • Investor meetings and conference calls

 


  • Bachelor's degree required, and prefer. MBA or CFA charter holder; alternately, significant applicable experience can replace the graduate degree requirement

  • Should possess at least 7 plus years of relevant analytical work experience in areas such as credit analysis, securities research, asset management, banking, or accounting

  • Experience in the Consumer sector is helpful but not required

  • Should possess strong financial statement analysis skills

  • Should have strong writing ability(a writing test will be part of the interview process)

  • A demonstrated ability to give effective verbal presentations to Chief Officer-level executives is preferred

  • A highly motivated and comfortable individual who can work  autonomously, as well as with the NY team on a virtual basis will do well in this role

  • Comfortable in a fast paced, multi-deadline driven environment
