Some applicants come to us with an image in their mind of a library after school where friendly teachers are tutoring discouraged kids in math, patiently attempting two or three different strategies to explain fractions, while gently encouraging their deflated pupils to keep trying.
And this job is nothing like that at all.
Think now of a group of aerobics instructors at the gym, foreheads glistening with sweat, bouncing up and down to a fast dance beat. Smiles on their face, but with a slightly devilish grin because they know they are pushing their clients to the edge. These instructors are in pretty good shape themselves, and they arent at all worried about a little perspiration stain here or there, or that their hair is headed in ten different directions. When they are done teaching 3 or 4 classes in a row, they collapse in exhaustion for the rest of the evening, but after a good night’s sleep, are back in cheerful form the next day.
Our job environment is more like that gym, and less like the library. In our case, instead of exercising muscles and cardio, we are strengthening our students’ brains (cognitive learning channels, to be more precise). Our brain trainers are not working on textbook assignments from school – they are building students’ underlying attention, efficiency and resilience.
Our Academic Coach / Brain Trainers are responsible for:
-Training students and adults using our unique curriculum
-Meeting with students and parents to discuss progress
-Providing exceptional customer service to students and parents
-Helping create a positive, vibrant environment
Qualifications we’re looking for:
-Enthusiasm for addressing children’s learning challenges
-A track record of success with a college major/minor in Psychology, Music, Recreation Therapy, Education, Communications, Speech Pathology, Audiology or a related area. A degree is preferred, but we will consider exceptional undergraduate students majoring in a child-oriented course of study.
-Previous experience working one-on-one with students or adults
-Ability to work part-time four to five times a week, afternoons/evenings until 8:00 pm
No phone calls, please. We need your resume in our system to proceed with the selection process.
