About the Job

Performs higher level accounting functions covering a broad range of financial and cost accounting duties.


 


Essential duties and responsibilites include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.


 




  • Accumulates and analyses information for the preparation of financial statements, tax statements and other reports.  Collects appropriate data and prepares federal, state and local reports and tax returns.


  • Verifies accuracy of information and recommends corrections.


  • Compiles/calculates analysis of plant performance trends and identifies decision areas.


  • Analyzes financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital, and prepares balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports to summarize and interpret current and projected company financial position for other managers. 


  •  Assists Plant Controller in guiding and assisting accounting staff.


  • Provides backup for accounting clerks.


  • Assists Plant Controller in plant budget preparation based on input provided by other department staff.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE


Possesses strong math aptitude, work accurately with numbers, good organization skills and ability to efficiently operate standard office equipment.  Strong analytical ability and thorough understanding of computer systems and accounting principles.


 


Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting; or 3 – 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


 


LANGUAGE SKILLS


Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.


 


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS


Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to interpret bar graphs.  Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, and percentages.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.  Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.


 


REASONING ABILITY


Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
