About the Job

Restaurants Unlimited, Inc. (RUI) was born in 1969 with the opening of The Red Baron, a steak and lobster house in Seattle.  The restaurant opened in response to a new trend in the restaurant business: fine food in a casual atmosphere.  With the opening of The Red Baron, Rich Komen, RU's Founder and Chairman, laid the foundation for what would be a continuing story of the successful application of creative restaurant concepts to the changing needs and desires of America's dining public.

Over the next 30 years, Mr. Komen pioneered the restaurant concepts of Clinkerdagger Bickerstaff & Petts Public House, Horatio’s, Simon and Seafort’s, Cutter’s Bayhouse, Kincaid’s, and Palomino.  Restaurants Unlimited continues to grow these concepts as well as develop new ones, including a fast casual concept called Pizzeria – Fondi, which was established in 2006.  In July 2007, RUI acquired Pacific Coast Restaurants out of Portland, Oregon increasing the size of the company by 28 locations with various concepts, including Stanford’s, Newport Seafood Grill, Newport Bay, Billy Heartbeats, Portland City Grill, Portland Steak and Chop House, Henry’s Tavern, and Manzana.

Currently, RUI is led by President and CEO, Norman Abdallah, who joined the Company in March, 2009.  Mr. Abdallah was the Senior Vice Chairman and President of Amer Group, a two   billion dollar conglomerate of hotels, resorts, restaurants and real estate.  RUI now owns and operates 54 full-service restaurants across the United States and four Pizzeria Fondi locations.  RUI manages many of its restaurants as distinct concepts or “brands”.  While Kincaid’s, Newport Seafood Grill, Palomino & Stanford’s are currently the four primary brands, this part of the business is always evolving.

The commonality shared by all of RUI’s concepts is an ongoing commitment to exceeding Guest expectations through excellent service and the highest standards in food and beverage quality.  RUI has a commitment to Guests and Crewmembers to maintain the best working environment they can, as one way to support their Guest-first approach which represents who RUI is and how RUI does business.

For fiscal year 2008, ended March 2008, the Company exceeded $250M in revenues.  RUI’s new leadership sees opportunity for growth which is supported by our private equity ownership.  RUI is organizing to position the Company as employer of choice, for restaurant growth and increased profitability.   We expect that superior Guest service, a strong team and smart and strategic concept management will be means to achieving this goal.  We will continue to be the industry benchmark as the leaders in the fine casual dining category.
