Accounting Manager

About the Job

Job Description:

The accounting manager will be responsible for the following daily/monthly activities for seven different entities:

  • Understand and properly apply U.S. GAAP to business activities (i.e., make sure cutoff of revenues and expenses are appropriate and that the general ledger is properly maintained on the accrual basis of accounting)
  • Supervise, monitor and develop accounting department personnel to ensure that all transactions are being properly recorded and reported.
  • Monitor bi-weekly payrolls to ensure pay and related benefits are accurately recorded.
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations for review by management.
  • Monitor accounts receivable for collectability and establish allowances as necessary.
  • Monitor all intercompany receivables and payables to ensure reconciliation is occurring within all entities.
  • Maintain and monitor prepaid expense schedules to properly reflect new additions and charges to expense on a monthly basis.
  • Record monthly purchases and disposals of capital assets and notify outside CPA of changes so that depreciation reports can be updated accordingly, record fixed asset transactions on the ledger.
  • Monitor accounts payable and implement a process to ensure that expenses are recorded in the period that they are incurred.
  • Provide cash projections on a weekly basis showing expected collections on receivables and required payments on debt and accounts payable due.
  • Monitor and adjust all payroll accruals on a monthly basis including bi-weekly payroll (cutoff) and vacation and sick time accruals.
  • Monitor the claims damage reserve and adjust as necessary on a monthly basis.
  • Record monthly debt payments on loans and lines-of-credit to ensure that principal and interest are properly recorded.
  • Monitor equity transactions (distributions and contributions) to ensure that they are proportionate to the ownership percentages (S-corporation requirement).

·         Manage the monthly closing cycle including the review, analysis and approval of all journal entries.

  • Prepare monthly financial statements for all entities including ratio and analytical analysis to identify trends and transactions not in line with budget and to identify any potential classification errors.
  • Hold monthly financial meetings with management to discuss current financial results and to ensure that all transactions are properly captured in the financial statements.
  • Oversee the budgeting process to ensure compliance, accuracy and reporting to management.
  • Read and understand all contracts of the companies to ensure proper reflection in the financial statements.
  • Research the proper accounting treatment of unusual transactions and consult with outside CPA’s when necessary.
  • Establish and document accounting policies and procedures.
  • Establish, document and maintain effective internal controls to ensure safeguarding of assets and reliability of financial statements.
  • Oversee the annual audit of the financial statements and provide assistance to the external auditors by monitoring the preparation of Company prepared supporting schedules.  Also assist with any information required for the tax returns and related tax estimated payments required.
