Accounting Supervisor-SEC and GAAP Reporting
To administer control for a unit in the Accounting department in either budget or financial accounting. All job duties and responsibilities must be carried out in compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements. - Responsible for managing staff members in our SEC/GAAP Accounting Group to fulfill departmental responsibilities.
- As part of our management team, must be a driver of change in our organization by looking for more effective and efficient ways of doing business.
- Responsible for the preparation of various schedules and disclosures for the quarterly Form 10-Q and annual Form 10-K filings, including footnotes and Management Discussion and Analysis.
- Responsible for the consolidation and analysis of overall company results, including actual versus actual and actual versus budget analysis.
- Responsible for accounting research on an as-needed basis.
- Responsible, along with other members of the management team, for development and maintenance of accounting policies and procedures.
- Responsible for parent company accounting, including accounting for stock-based compensation.
- Responsible for the review of other SEC filings, as necessary, including certain 8-K filings, 11-K filings and the proxy statement.
- Responsible for review and analysis of subsidiary financial information.
- Involvement in special projects as assigned.
- Responsible for Sarbanes-Oxley compliance in areas under supervision.
- Bachelors degree in accounting
- Strong analytical skills and a thorough understanding of financial statements.
- Experience in SEC Forms 10-Q and 10-K.
- Experience in interpreting authoritative accounting literature and ensuring compliance.
- Overall 4-6 years experience in public accounting or private industry, including experience supervising others.
- Organized, with a strong focus on details and the ability to prioritize self and staff to meet time-sensitive deadlines.
- Ability to challenge the status quo and execute improvement plans.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Team orientated with the ability to motivate staff in taking a proactive approach to their job responsibilities.
Preferred: - CPA/MBA
- Previous property casualty experience
- Other insurance experience
- Knowledge of Lawson and Hyperion products
