About the Job

The Legal team oversees BlackRock's compliance with applicable laws and rules, and is responsible for, among other things: establishing legal and compliance policies and procedures that meet applicable regulatory requirements and testing the operative effectiveness of those policies and procedures; overseeing all regulatory matters - employees must direct all communications regarding such matters to a Department member; coordinating all litigation and legal proceedings; negotiating contracts; and providing compliance training. 


This position will report to the General Counsel of BlackRock Alternative Advisors (“BAA”) business unit. This group is responsible for advising BlackRock’s hedge fund of funds investment management group regarding legal considerations relevant to their business decisions. A high degree of interaction with BAA’s clients, investment managers with whom BAA does business and a wide range of internal BlackRock personnel at all levels.


Responsibilities:

  • The role of Administrative Assistant will be to act as the ‘right-hand’ support to BAA’s General Counsel.

  • Coordinating and arranging travel schedules.

  • Maintaining hard copy and electronic filing systems.

  • Scheduling a variety of meetings and conference calls, and maintaining the day-to-day calendar of the General Counsel.

  • Communicating by telephone and e-mail with external resource contacts.

  • Maintaining legal billing system and coordinating payment of all legal invoices.

  • General typing and reformatting of documents.

  • Liaison with all departments of the company.

  • Preparing expense reports as needed for the General Counsel.

  • Produce letters, memoranda, presentations, reports, etc., as necessary; proofreading abilities must be above average.

  • Providing assistance to outside counsel and other business relationships.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3+ years experience, and currently supporting at a senior level.

  • Must be technologically savvy and enjoy learning new technology and have that ability to adapt to change.

  • Must have the ability to remain detail-oriented and well organized while working at a fast pace.

  • Must have superior skills in MS Excel and MS Word, and excellent knowledge in Outlook.

  • Ability to think creatively and identify opportunities to improve the quality of the Legal Department.

  • Must be able to function in a quasi-paralegal role; i.e., comprehend and organize information.

  • Professional experience within a legal group or law firm highly desirable.

  • Bachelor's degree strongly preferred.
