Job Summary:
- Design and write documentation provided to customers, including task-based user manuals, technical reference materials in a variety of formats, release notices and update instructions, online help systems, online instructional demos, knowledge base articles, and system administrator and installation manual
- Creatively gather and critically analyze source information
- Serve on the cross-functional teams responsible for product development, attend all team meetings, and maintain open communication between the team and the Documentation department
- Demonstrate a clear understanding of 3M HIS products; write clearly and accurately
- Write with audience and information needs in mind
- Conform to department standards of formatting, information design, and usability
- Uses the following tools for writing documents: Author-it, Framemaker, Robohelp, Captivate, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel
- Use basic business tools in day-to-day work: Microsoft Office (Word, Power Point, Excel, Access), Internet Explorer, Clarity, Lotus Notes, TeleLogic, Remedy, Perforce
- May coordinate projects including multiple writers
- Contribute significantly to the prevention and resolution of conflicts
- Participate in peer reviews of other people's work
- Develop multi-document information delivery plans
- May coach other writers on processes, standards, and tools
- Foster a respectful, cooperative work environment
Basic/Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree
- minimum 3 combined years of experience writing user documentation and/or training material
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in English, Communication, Journalism, Education, or related field
- Strong writing and editing skills
- Excellent communication and research skills
- Competency with desktop publishing tools and computers in general
- Ability to learn and adapt quickly
- Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with challenging deadlines, and multiple projects
- Proven ability to maintain a positive attitude in a team environment
- Proven ability to take individual initiative and responsibility for assignments
