American Family Insurance Agent in Training

About the Job

Position Objective
The Agent in Training (AIT) will work under contract for American Family Insurance as a full time agent. The position is designed to give “on the job training" in preparation for running an agency. AIT’s will work in a full time mentor agent’s office to build and cultivate customer relationships develop leads, promote and sell American Family products. Incumbents will solicit, quote, consult and bind coverage to help customers manage their unique insurance and financial needs.

Primary Accountabilities

Sales Generation (60%)

• Solicits available insurance products to new and existing clients. Conducts comparisons to other insurers/policies. Calculates and quotes policy premiums.
• Make suitable recommendations on policy coverages and options, closes sales, and processes applications in an accurate manner.
• Create and utilize strategies to close sales on a daily basis.
• Maintains an active awareness of current products / coverages offered and underwriting rules. Must also be aware of state insurance regulations.
• Analyze information such as motor vehicle reports, credit reports, applications, risk, etc., to accept or reject new business. This requires strong analytical and decision making skills.
• Tracks daily sales activity; keeps management apprised of sales activity on an ongoing basis.

Customer Service (40%)

• Projects and promotes a favorable image of American Family Insurance to enhance public attitudes regarding company products and services.
• Compliant with Do-Not-Call regulations, policies and procedures.
• Assist customers with account changes.
• Responds appropriately to customer claim situations.
• Deals with customers in a fair and ethical manner.

Education/Licenses/Designations

• Have or obtain and maintain agent insurance licensing (Property/Casualty and Life/Health) for the resident state that is supported.
• State securities licenses must be obtained within company designated timeframe.

Travel Requirements
• This position requires travel up to 50% of the time.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills Requirements
• Knowledge of insurance industry, insurance terminology and insurance concepts.
• Knowledge of PC applications.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate both orally and in writing on technical issues and have good listening skills.
• Demonstrates customer relation skills to provide excellent service.
• Ability to independently plan, set priorities, and organize work in assigned areas of responsibility.
