The University of Connecticut Health Center (UCHC) is seeking a business intelligence analyst to provide analytical and reporting support for various customers across the entire organization using WebFOCUS. Working with our data warehouses and other data sources, this position will be responsible for gathering user requirements as well as designing, coding, implementing, testing, and maintaining high-quality business intelligence and decision support solutions.
Experience and Training:
A minimum of six (6) years experience in programming, systems analysis and design, and testing specific to reporting and other business intelligence technologies is required.
An Associate’s Degree in computer programming may be substituted for two (2) years of the general experience requirement. A Bachelor’s Degree in computer programming may be substituted for four (4) years of the general experience requirement.
Preferred Requirements:
The following specific requirements are preferred:
- experience with all phases of the software development life cycle as it applies to reporting and BI development, including the ability to gather accurate requirements and to create clear and concise documentation;
- experience creating reports, dashboards, and scorecards with WebFOCUS, using both the Developer Studio and the guided ad-hoc applets;
- experience administering and maintaining the entire WebFOCUS environment, including WebFOCUS Pro Server, the Managed Reporting Environment, and Report Caster;
- experience with the infrastructure of enterprise-class business intelligence systems – such as performing software installation and configuration, end-user security, performance tuning, and troubleshooting;
- experience with enterprise-class database management systems, including the principles and techniques of data modeling and data warehousing;
- experience with financial and/or human resources administration systems;
- experience with hospital systems and medical terminology;
- experience with SQL coding and with Microsoft SQL Server (versions 2000-2008);
- exposure to ETL tools, preferably Informatica or DTS/SSIS.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
Demonstrated technical and general business skills, such as:
- good working knowledge of the principles of application development and decision support;
- knowledge of system architecture used consistently within or across the organization or enterprise;
- knowledge of relational database structures and systems; basic understanding of the principles and techniques of data modeling;
- ability to analyze techniques and develop solutions to problems in a timely manner;
- ability to write and maintain program documents;
- ability to follow instructions and pay close attention to details
- ability to take action to ensure customer satisfaction;
- excellent logical, analytical, and interpretive skills;
- effective oral and written communication skills; good interpersonal skills.
Examples of Duties:
- participate in planning sessions with business customers and other team members to develop and analyze requirements for moderate to complex reports, dashboards, etc;
- understand existing data models to facilitate development of BI solutions, design solutions in accordance with existing standards, write code, and conduct system testing to validate solutions;
- provide support to end users experiencing problems with reporting software and/or reporting servers or environments;
- manage user security – access, and authorization to physical servers and reporting environments;
- monitor server and application performance and resolve problems as they occur, including appropriate documentation of each problem; also monitor system utilization for capacity planning purposes;
- install, test, and validate software patches and upgrades as needed;
- manage risks and mitigations properly – quickly identify problems that threaten the progress of development efforts and resolve them effectively, and escalate problems to IT management as appropriate;
- maintain knowledge of BI technologies, tools, vendors, and industry trends, and provide feedback and recommendations to IT management as appropriate;
- communicate regularly with IT management, business customers, and others as appropriate to keep everyone properly informed about work progress.
SCHEDULE:
40 hours weekly, generally 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday, with Flexibility to accommodate Department needs.
