The Application Engineer is responsible for working with the Application Engineering Manager, Engineering, and Sales to provide cost effective bulk cable and cable assembly design solutions based on direct customer interaction and knowledge of the application for their assigned customer base and market segment. Will work together with the Sales Account Managers in support of customers. Will also develop new and innovative products based on customer input, market trends, and company strategy.
Provide necessary application engineering support to meet customer’s needs for new products and changes to existing products. Obtain necessary process engineering support for product development activities. Act as Project Manager/Team Leader to ensure new product development efforts take a structured, cross-functional team approach. Provide cost effective designs maximizing margin through understanding of margin, material, labor, scrap, and tooling costs. Provide technical support and design assistance to assigned customers through normal communication channels and as occasional travel to customer’s facility. Daily activities will be to create bulk cable and cable assembly designs at the request of Sales, Marketing, and Engineering Management. Conduct design review and design validation of new product introductions. Process and maintain quotes and new orders in a timely fashion. Support Quality in evaluation of electrical and mechanical test requirements and results. Initiate/coordinate/complete Engineering Change Requests as needed. Support Manufacturing on new product processes. Process corrective actions on designs as needed. Provide clear and concise reports of activities major projects on weekly basis. Manage and track new development programs as a key member of a cross-functional team composed of representatives from various aspects of the organization. Experience should include 5+ years engineering in manufacturing environment related to bulk cable and cable assembly is a must. Must have previous experience with multimedia and/or data communications products. Bachelors Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, and excellent knowledge of bulk cable and cable assembly materials, safety certifications, design, electrical/mechanical characteristics and testing. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD (however, any Cad package is acceptable), Access database navigation, Internet, and excellent written/verbal communication skills.
