APPLICATIONS ENGINEER - CNC

For over 27 years, Hegman Machine Tool (HMT), a full service 4 State machine distributor, has helped our manufacturing customers be successful by selling them high end machining solutions and service.  Our main line for CNC machines is Okuma. Okuma is a world leader in the development of computer numeric controls (CNC) and machining technology which produce excellent reliability, accuracy and repeatability - "to print" tolerance.

HMT currently has an opening for an experienced Applications Engineer to support our CNC machining customers.

Our applications engineers are able to work with “the big picture” and have a direct impact on our customers and our company.  You will develop solutions for our customers; assist our sales people on sales calls and bid preparations and provide phone support and training.  You should like multi-tasking, helping others, working hard, learning new things and drawing on your training and experience.

We are seeking an individual who has a minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience developing and proving programs on a variety of multi axis machine tools.  If you are very good at using and understanding modern machining methods, workholding,  geometric conditions, CAD/CAM software, measuring instruments, reading prints and can recommend what type of machines, methods and options are needed to make parts you may be our person.  The qualified candidate will also possess process development experience, customer service skills and strong oral and written English communication skills.  A four-year Engineering Degree is preferred.  Previous work involving automation and robotics is a plus.  A valid driver’s license and good driving record is required.  We provide a Company car and you will frequently be providing customer support onsite.  Up to 25% overnight travel may be necessary.

Responsibilities:

• Work from customer supplied part drawings, specifications and requirements to plan programming and related functions to produce a machining time estimate (time study) or sample parts.
• Develop basic tooling requirements and prepare any necessary drawings and instructions, including locating points and work holding methods.
• Determine speeds, feeds other machining variables and operational sequences based on tooling and material requirements and specified surface finishes.
• Use computer assisted programming software to develop the individual tool cut time and eventually the complete CNC part program.
• Have experience with or be willing to learn and implement Factory Automation Systems.
• Assist with customer demonstrations, work with customers to solve part processing issues, prepare customer parts for machine demonstrations.
• Teach programming and hands-on after machine sale application support.
• Travel with sales engineers as needed to support product presentations.
• Provide phone support to our customers and sales engineers.
• Assist field service technicians with new machine installations & set-up.
