Applications Systm Analyst II

We are seeking an individual to fill the role of Support Specialist for Research Study Design. This position reports to the Director of Academic and Research Computing (ARC) and will support the Longwood Medical Area Clinical & Translational Science Center (CTSC) affiliated research communities (BIDMC, Children’s, Dana Farber, HMS) in electronic data capture (EDC) and surveys for research studies. The incumbent will support the EDC/eCRF suite of applications within the Harvard Medical School’s Clinical and Translational Science Center (CTSC/CTSA), Harvard Catalyst. They will be responsible for the in-depth understanding of the suite of tools available within the EDC/eCRF/Survey Service; identifying the optimal study tool within the suite given the investigator’s requirements for the study; and train/educate these personnel in its use and functions. Additionally, the research study specialist will perform outreach and present to the Hospitals’ IRBs, research departments and research security officers regarding the suite during internal education sessions. The incumbent will act as a liaison between users, and the IT staff at the various CTSC affiliates to troubleshooting users’ issues and compile feature requests.

The Technical Research Study Support Specialist will work closely and on a daily basis with Harvard, BIDMC, Children’s, and Dana Farber research faculty and their study coordinators, designers and programmers in addition to Academic Computing’s EDC Core. They will assist the research community in collecting data from various sources, identifying and promoting standard formats, and ensuring an adequate information technology infrastructure is available.


Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
• 4 years minimum experience in managing individual eCRF/EDC or study subject recruitment projects with a CRO, clinical or academic environment
• Strong technical skills including knowledge of software development processes. No programming required, but ability to deeply understand application functions and technical documentation required.
• Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills

SKILLS, ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
• Advanced knowledge of an EDC system such as Teleform, Liquid Office, REDCap, Velos, StudyTrax, and/or PhaseForward.
• Proven ability to work in a team-oriented, dynamic environment, developing flexible solutions to meet evolving requirements
• Demonstrated ability to meet very short deadlines & multi-task in an extremely fast-paced work environment with little direct supervision.
• Demonstrated Excellence in project management skills with a strong commitment to customer service
• Superior written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills: Ability to communicate effectively with end-users, business owners (scientists), governance teams, developers, application analysts, and systems engineers.
• Ability to deliver effective training programs and large group presentations in person and via telephone or e-mail
• Knowledge of all phases of client-server application technology and high-availability/clustered web-server implementations and end-user support.
• Knowledge of relational database structures and structured query language (SQL).
• Knowledge of or competency in scripting within object-oriented languages: php, Perl, JAVA script, or the like, or proven ability to quickly learn scripting a plus.
• Ability and willingness to travel within the Boston area to the multiple affiliate sites at Harvard, BIDMC, Children’s and Dana Farber.
