Detailed Description

This position is responsible for the design, performance, and scalability of commercial websites that support the direct marketing channel for US Airways.  To be successful this function must be able to engineer software based on performance modeling that has measurable response times, enables high volume throughout, and effectively uses resources.  This function will drive the performance modeling and provides a structured and repeatable approach to meeting performance objectives.  To be successful this function must create measurable testing that ensures performance improvements.  This role is the key technical expert, addressing problems of system integration, compatibility, and integration of multiple platforms.

Lead the discovery, design and deployment for the architectural direction and decisions for the On-Line Marketing Division of IT for US Airways.  Manage integration, performance analysis, and stability of the company’s publicly facing websites.  Lead teams that analyze measure and improve site performance and availability.  Collaborate and coordinate with centralized IT Architectural initiatives.

  • Perform modeling based on scenarios, workloads, budgets and creates metrics to measure improvements.
  • Optimize caching.  Optimize cashing, familiarity with tuning session state and its impact on performance.
  • Ability to analyze and optimize effective application memory, connectivity, and service calls.
  • Design and analyze hosting infrastructure and application architecture as they relate to overall performance, reliability and maintainability.
  • Database performance tuning including indexing, schema optimization, de-normalization techniques, query plan analysis, etc.
  • Defining and creating a common application framework in conjunction with other architects.
  • Define process that helps identify performance issues in an automated fashion utilizing continuous integration.  Establish testing that measures the network, system applications and the entire platform.
  • Extensive experience designing and implementing N-tier solutions.
  • Design and manage connectivity for the transport mechanics, boundaries, remote interfaces, and round trip calls considering serializing and bandwidth.
  • Interact with management by designing, justifying and implementing architectural direction and decisions.

 

Job Requirements
  1. 10+ years software development experience with 5+ years architectural and performance tuning experience on the Microsoft stack.
  2. Experience implementing and utilizing Microsoft Team Foundation Server.
  3. Expert in Agile development techniques and leading Agile development teams: Scrum/XP preferred.
  4. Expert with XML, HTML, ASP.NET and other web development technologies required.
  5. Undergraduate degree in CS/CE/CIS/MIS or Engineering/Technology or related field.
  6. Demonstrated project management methodology experience, including technology delivery methods
  7. Experience with load testing applications such as VS for Testers, Loadrunner, etc.  Experience with C#. VB.NET, WCF, WF, AJAX, JSON, LINQ and other development technologies required.
  8. Experience with Java, C++, Visual Basic, Progress, Oracle and DB2 a plus.  Knowledge and experience with unit testing.
  9. Experience with MS SQL Server 2005 and 2008 required, Oracle desired.  MCPF-EA strongly preferred.
  10. Excellent verbal and written communication.
  11. Airline business systems knowledge – a plus.
