About the Job


Basic Purpose:


 


Primarily responsible for maintenance, repair, additions, alterations and general upkeep of Primary Headends, Secondary Headends, Hub Sights and Relay sights, Antennas, Towers, and Earth Stations. Responsibilities include standard analog and digital CATV services, HSD and digital telephone duties as directed by Supervisor.


 


Job Duties and Responsibilities:


The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to:


 


Performs any and all duties included in FST I - IV, System Technician, or Advanced Technician descriptions.


Ensures high level of customer satisfaction with the quality of the services delivered to the customer's home, apartment building, or commercial business. 


Promotes Bresnan products and models excellent customer service to every customer. 


Performs regular maintenance, repair, testing, alignment, alterations and adjustment on all headend equipment, including, but not limited to, processors, modulators, demodulators, encoders, decoders, satellite receivers, all types of switchers, fiber optic transmitters, fiber optic receivers, other fiber optic equipment, digital headend equipment, HSD equipment, digital telephone equipment generators, air conditioning, power conditioning and other headend and plant equipment.


Performs regular proof of performance and other headend and plant testing, documentation and reporting in accordance with FCC rules and Bresnan policy.


Performs headend alterations including design changes, service additions, service changes, channel rearrangements, equipment improvements and changes including air conditioning, power conditioning, standby generators, towers, antennas and satellite rx/tx stations.


Maintains thorough and current proficiency of FCC and Bresnan performance specifications, and can, without supervision, initiate and complete comprehensive testing including (but not limited to) all FCC or Bresnan required or recommended tests and measurements. Insures that the headend and all related equipment is properly maintained within these specifications at all times.


Performs training of Bresnan staff, as directed by supervisor.


Properly protects and defends Bresnan equipment, property and materials against loss, theft or damage. Maintains all equipment assigned in proper working order including regular calibration, repair, adjustment and alignment.


Maintains security, including security and alarm systems, of facilities in accordance with Bresnan policy.


 


Utilizes the full-range of test equipment to ensure that the system is operating effectively and efficiently, including but not limited to head-end, outside and inside plant, and installations.


Develops and ensures compliance with the system’s preventive maintenance program.  Recommends new methods and practices, as needed.


Interacts with outside agencies, as required by repair activities.


Controls and maintains company assets and materials used by the department.  Recommends purchase of necessary materials in a timely manner to the supervisor.


Prepares reports, as required, on department operations.


Maintains an in depth knowledge of all applicable regulations and specifications concerning the repair of the system.


Performs all work in a safe manner, ensuring the safety of co-workers, customers, the general public, and the employee.  All work is done in compliance with the National Electric Code, National Electrical Safety Code, and OSHA regulations.


Drives Company vehicles safely, complying with all traffic regulations.


May be required to work standby duty, as assigned.


Performs other duties as required.


Required Qualifications:


High school education or equivalent.


Certification as described in the Bresnan Technical Advancement and Career Path Policy, including written, practical, and safety tests.  Outside candidates will be expected to provide proof of comparable training completion, or with the approval of the Engineering Department, hired with the expectation that all tests will be passed within 180 days of hire.


Advanced knowledge of Fiber Optics technology, HFC networks, OTDR traces, and documentation.


Ability to manipulate connectors, fasteners, wire and hand tools, including but not limited to shovels, picks, wrenches, and other general or specialized small hand tools.


Valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record.


Demonstrated leadership and staff development skills.


Strong interpersonal skills and customer relations skills.


Neat and clean appearance.


Ability to safely operate aerial lift vehicles.


Ability to safely and regularly perform position requirements at heights greater than 30 feet.  With or without accommodation, must be physically capable of:


safely climbing poles, ladders, towers and other structures, and


lifting and carrying up to 70 lbs.


May need to distinguish between various colors, hear specific tones, and/or obtain certifications required in specific localities.


The combined weight of a person's body and equipment must not exceed the standard 300-pound weight capacity designated to ladders and bucket trucks.
