Summary Description:
The Assistant Manager of Merchandising, under the direction of the Store Manager, is responsible for the overall look, atmosphere and layout of the store. The primary focus is maximizing sales, by assuring merchandise is stocked, visually appealing and priced appropriately.
General management duties
§ Impeccable communication and follow-up with other managers, sales team, warehouse team and all other departments of HW
§ Participate in advocacy efforts and direct action to end the twin crises of homelessness and AIDS
Sales:
§ Know and own your monthly budget and daily sales goals, including category % breakdown and LY sales #s
§ Actively participate and communicate all HW thrift promotions to staff/volunteers and customers
§ Showcase exemplary customer/donor service and solve customer situations diplomatically, while abiding to all HW policies
§ Assure that all customers, donors and sales team are aware of HW mission and goal
§ Plan monthly/weekly promos with Store Manager
Staff Management
§ Thoroughly train staff/volunteers in policies, procedures and standards
§ Use Daily Focus to delegate zones, breaks, tasks, sales goal and promotions
§ Throughout day, communicate and delegate tasks based on needs and flow of the day
§ Supervise and coach staff in customer service and completing assigned tasks; Hold them accountable in these areas
§ Utilize corrective action when appropriate
Cash Handling
§ Abide by all policies regarding daily deposits, daily petty cash reconciliation and log records
§ Responsible for troubleshooting, reconciling and communicating all $ discrepancies over $5
Specific Merchandising Manager Duties
§ Keep high standards of organization, cleanliness (housekeeping) and safety in all areas of store that are visible to customers, including sidewalk, window façade, store floor and cashwrap
§ Maintain visual displays and zones, according to HW visual standards, set floor plan and stock
§ Assure all categories are stocked, priced accurately and maintained
§ Prepare for and conduct daily furniture drop-off and floor moves (safely and quickly)
§ Plan and coordinate enticing, weekly set-ups and mannequin arrangements (Friday night setup)
§ Create displays that promote upcoming events
§ Utilize smart markdowns, sales and promos to ensure steady sell-through and sales generation
§ Work closely with PDC and Visual Dept to enhance quality and quantity of stock in store
§ Guide the merchandise coordinator to keep on these primary tasks
Auction
§ Set aside quality items for use in window auction
§ Oversee customer contact, winner follow up, sales tracking and shipment execution
§ Train staff/volunteers in auction procedures and bidding process
§ Other duties as directed by Manager, Director, President or Senior staff
Assistant Manager of Merchandising
Qualifications/Requirements:
§ 3 years retail experience; 1 year key holding experience
§ High school diploma or equivalent
§ Flexibility in schedule; Weekends required; Required to work over 40 hrs/week if needed
§ Excellent organization, communication, planning and interpersonal skills
§ Self-starting, self-motivating mindset
§ Strong interest in HW thrift store mission and store functions/merchandise
