Assistant Operations Manager

Job Description:
Basic Responsibilities:

This is a training position responsible for acquiring knowledge of the GOM position, and for practicing the execution of these responsibilities by working on projects and by assuming various operational responsibilities under the direction of the GOM.

Reporting Relationships:

This position reports directly to the facility General Operations Manager (GOM) with whom periodic reviews are conducted and from whom general guidance and direction is provided. Reporting directly to this position will be various Distribution Supervisors, Support Staff, and Distribution Associates according to assignments being worked on by the AOM.

Required Experience:

This position requires a seasoned warehouse operations professional possessing at least 5 years of progressively responsible distribution management experience. In conjunction with the GOM, this position has responsibility for the day-to-day operations, traffic management, and the other various distribution activities. Included is the implementation of approved operating and traffic management policies while achieving production goals and meeting quality standards. This position requires the individual to possess a management style and ability to work effectively with and through task teams and participative groups in a high employee involvement organization. This position also requires that the individual be relocatable and deemed promotable within 2-3 years.

Accountabilites:

The accountabilities listed below are ad hoc in nature.
A. Assures the facility’s deliverance of consistent high quality performance and high levels of productivity in a cost-effective manner through progressive management practices.

B. Develops the management team by ongoing coaching, mentoring, guiding, and corrective action.

C. Creates and maintains high levels of employee involvement throughout the facility, including the non-exempt office and warehouse staff

D. Overseas the facility training and cross-training efforts for the skill development of all facility Associates.

E. Interacts with customers proactively and in a consultative role to ensure that their expectations are being met.

F. Coordinates the execution of distribution schedules based on facility capacity.

G. Assures high levels of Associate safety and health by striving for a hazard-free workplace. Assures the effectiveness of the facility safety program, including regulatory (OSHA) compliance.

H. Oversees the maintenance and security of the building and equipment.

I. Reviews recommendations for special equipment, and works closely with product and process research and development program changes.

J. Participates in long-range facility expansions, conversions, equipment planning, and budgeting.

K. Serves as the acting GOM in the absence of the facility’s GOM.
