POSITION SUMMARY: This position plays a critical functional leadership role within OptumHealth on the New Business Services team. As part of the leadership team, this individual will be accountable for establishing key liasions and relationships within OptumHealth that will synchronize the value story and go to market messaging across the organization. Additional accountabilities will include managing and providing mentorship for a team of strategic proposal writers, creating new content development with strategic content writers for inclusion within request for proposals and directing the input of the new content into the content database for Care Solutions. This position is a unique blend of writing, marketing and business development. A critical component of this position will be the ability to take high level, conceptual information, create message maps and value proposition and then translate that in to an articulation of a value story that can be delivered to the market place. Strong interpersonal skills along with marketing, advertising or business development background is essential. RESPONSIBILITIES: - Develop strategic liasions within marketing, product, sales and training
- Own value proposition, market positioning and overall strategic messaging for New Business Services Care Solutions business segment
- Consult with marketing and product teams on messaging strategy for Care Solutions and consult with leadership teams across the OptumHealth
- Participate in content development across all major Care Solution categories and product lines
- Work with key stakeholders (sales, channel leads, marketing, product development and training) to develop, articulate and implement this content within the New Business Services team
- Provide direction to New Business Services content development staff on incorporating value story and market messages within the content database
- Coach and mentor content development staff and strategic proposal writers to ensure understanding of corporate messaging and how to incorporate it into documents
- Interface regularly with organizational leadership to ensure that New Business keeps pace with developments in the marketplace and OptumHealth corporate positioning and brand value enhancements
- Contribute as member of New Business leadership team to assist in development and implementation of strategic direction
- Collaborate with Strategic Content Development team on articulation of the value story, message story mapping and strategic content framework and positioning
- Edit proposals and presentations as needed
- Serve as strategic consultant on large, marquis and highly customer centric proposals which involve value and product innovations, including editing key sections, as needed
- Collaborating with Marketing regarding positioning for finalist presentations, as appropriate
- Collaborate with Product Development regarding appropriate positioning and articulation of the value story within New Business Services
- Manage a team of strategic proposal writers
- Direct hiring and termination processes
- Ensuring a progressive professional development plan for each staff member
- Provide formal and informal coaching and performance evaluation
- Manage multiple projects with a sensitivity to deadlines and to working in a collaborative group environment-role within projects is based on the needs of the team, workflow, complexity/visibility of project (e.g. may actually serve as project manager or own/mentor other project managers)
- Coordinate with sister companies and business units within OptumHealth, as appropriate, to ensure strategic alignment (e.g., Specialty Benefits, Financial Services, UnitedHealthcare, Ingenix)
- Own dissemination of information from product, marketing and other parts of the business to SI&S leadership team as appropriate
REQUIREMENTS: Required Skills/Background · Experience in all content phases of new business development, including development of value proposition, message framing, writing, and project management · Knowledge about health and productivity ; demonstrated ability to provide timely, accurate information to internal customers · Demonstrated successful organizational and project management skills; knowledge and ability to understand and improve systems to support complex project management organization-wide · Ability to perform effectively under pressure and to practice strong organizational skills when faced with multiple, time-sensitive priorities · Excellent interpersonal as well as written and verbal communication skills · Excellent editorial skills, including a demonstrated ability to provide clear, strategic input that motivates the writer to enhance performance · Strong business acumen at the strategic level · Management skills, including ability to direct, motivate, and develop staff; a management style that is goal-oriented but flexible, which respects the capabilities and independence of staff members and also provides them with a clear sense of direction.
