Associate Chemist

About the Job

1.   Primary Purpose of this position:

Perform petroleum based product research and development.  Develop new products as well as update existing products to meet customer needs, market trends, and new technology.  Support Distribution sales and Private Label sales as a technical consultant.  Support production staff through the QC process.

 

2.   Principal Duties of this position:

Essential Functions:

  • Function within the guidelines of the Lube-Tech “Team Ground Rules” and Mission Statement.
  • Develop new products or update existing products as defined by the NPC process.
  • Develop product documentation for label/MSDS/PDS/lab performance testing.
  • Update knowledge base and incorporate new technologies.
  • Train and educate laboratory technician.
  • Support customer service and inside sales with technical support of customer inquiries.
  • Support Distribution and Private Label sales with onsite/application support, new product identification, field testing and technical support.
  • Interact with customers/prospects to define their needs and make product/process recommendations to meet those needs.
  • Support training of sales team, internal staff and customers on petroleum based technology, new and existing products and applications.
  • Liaison between product development, technical/lab progress and supply chain.
  • New technology research and application with existing suppliers and new suppliers.
  • Maintain a technical library and product library.
  • Develop, communicate and train product cross-references.
  • Maintain and communicate product regulatory information.

 

3.   Position Qualifications:

  • General overview: 

·         Minimum B.S./B.A. degree with emphasis in sciences, more specifically Chemistry.

·         Minimum 5 years formulation experience in industrial lubes, 4 stroke lubes, and 2 stroke lubricants. 

·         Comprehensive knowledge of petroleum based lubricants, specifically product formulation testing and approval.

 

Specific skills or abilities: 

·         Demonstrate new product development creativity and laboratory processes.

·         Demonstrate safe laboratory practices.

·         Demonstrate knowledge of applicable chemistries, raw materials, and new technologies.

·         Demonstrate strong oral, written, analytical, and interpersonal skills

·         Ability to organize work and manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines

 

Travel required:

·         As required to locations, meetings, customers, etc.

 

4.   Work Environment:

·         General Overview: Laboratory, general office, and production area.

·         Lifting Requirements:  45 pounds

·         Safety Hazards of the job: Chemical exposure
