Hormel Foods Corporation has an opportunity for an Associate Database Administrator in our Information Technology division in Austin, MN. As an Associate Database Analyst, you will be responsible for administering small to medium sized databases and applications with low to average complexity. The individual works under close supervision to provide database installation, availability, security, change control and 24x7 third level support.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Follows established standards to install, monitor, performance tune, and troubleshoot issues on database and application installations that are small to medium in size with low to average complexity; provide primary support for multiple small to medium sized applications and provide backup support for larger, more complex systems; provide 24x7 support for solving operational and availability issues with the databases and environments; performs database and application upgrades and patches during nights and weekends to minimize downtime; responsible for attaining set service levels for system availability.
• Coordinates small scope projects with Software Engineers, System Programmers, Service Desk and functional owners; reviews and approves code and database changes; follows and provides input to Hormel DBA standards; documents configurations; policies adherence, and procedures based on established documentation standards; works under close supervision.

• Is efficient in using established database administration tools; business knowledge is limited to the applications and departments that are supported; experienced in troubleshooting and solving database connectivity, security and environmental problems with low to average complexity; works with more experienced DBA's to solve more complex problems; proficient in navigating and working with software support to solve problems; has general understanding and troubleshooting ability for one or more Application Server environments such as Oracle Application Server or WebSphere.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
• A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or related degree and 2-4 years of applicable experience.
• Entry level Oracle or SQL Server Database Administration knowledge which includes:
• Ability to start, stop, backup and restore the database
• Proficient in SQL
• Ability to troubleshoot Database issues such as performance and connectivity problems.
• Knowledge of Database components and required configuration files
• AIX or UNIX knowledge and experience.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Proven project definition and management capabilities.
• Tested problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Highly developed interpersonal and leadership skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience working with AIX or another UNIX operating system is preferred.
• Must be a Citizen or National of the United States, a lawful, permanent resident or have the authorization to work in the United States.
