The Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) is a private-sector, non-profit corporation, created by the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002, to oversee the auditors of public companies in order to protect the interests of investors and further the public interest in the preparation of informative, fair, and independent audit reports.
Job Description
The PCAOB has a full-time, regular position for an Associate Director, Accountant in the Division of Enforcement and Investigations at its New York and Washington, DC headquarters office. This key role reports to the Director of Enforcement and Investigations and requires a proactive person that thrives in a multi-faceted professional environment.
Responsibilities
· Planning, organizing and conducting investigations dealing with complex matters involving financial fraud and other securities practices that may involve possible violations of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002, the rules of the PCAOB, the provisions of the securities laws relating to the preparation and issuance of audit reports and the obligations and liabilities of accountants with respect thereto, including the rules of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission issued under the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002, or professional standards;
· Reviewing and analyzing audit working papers, corporate books and records, and other financial and accounting documents;
· Conducting interviews and testimony;
· Identifying accounting, auditing, and financial reporting deficiencies;
· Making recommendations to the Board related to enforcement actions; and
· Participating with attorneys in administrative hearings before hearing officers and before the PCAOB and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree in Accounting; MBA/Master's degree a plus;
· At least 8 years of progressively responsible experience with a public accounting firm in the audit of publicly traded companies and 8 years of investigative experience related to accounting and auditing matters;
· Alternatively, at least 16 years of progressively responsible experience with a public accounting firm in the audit of publicly traded companies with a minimum of 3 years at the Senior Manager/Manager level;
· Current CPA (Certified Public Accountant) license;
· Proficient in the application of accounting and auditing guidance including GAAP, GAAS, and the federal securities regulations, related to the issuance of audited financial statements;
· Superior technical abilities, regulatory knowledge, leadership and communications skills;
· Knowledge and expertise with industry standard testing tools and incident tracking tools a plus;
· Ability to work independently and as a member of a team;
· Strong verbal and written communication skills; and
· Ability to travel some.
