Associate Director, Medical Affairs - Pain Innovation

McNeil Consumer Healthcare Division of McNEIL-PPC, Inc is currently recruiting for an Associate Director, Medical Affairs - Pain Innovation for its Fort Washington, PA location.
McNeil Consumer Healthcare Division of McNEIL-PPC, Inc markets a broad range of over-the-counter products, including TYLENOL acetaminophen products, ZYRTEC and BENADRYL allergy medicines, IMODIUM A-D anti-diarrheal, MOTRIN IB, PediaCare upper respiratory medicines for infants and children, ROLAIDS antacid products, ST. JOSEPH Adult Regimen Aspirin, and SUDAFED nasal decongestants.
This newly-created position will provide medical and scientific thought leadership in the development of the global pain innovation pipeline. The role will be a member of the global innovation team of the pain franchise, and will report to the Vice-President of OTC Medical Affairs. The key business partners for this role are the Global Strategic Marketing (GSM) director for the pain franchise, and OTC franchise directors from the different regions. The key technical partners are the R&D global innovation team leader, global OTC technology innovation leader, and peers/colleagues from the medical affairs, clinical research and regulatory functions.
Work with the GIT to craft and implement global UR franchise strategies as it relates to helping patients with pain conditions (head, body, arthritis). Support technology development, business development and market research activities of the GIT. Develop new scientific and medical insights into the treatment and management of pain conditions through internal expertise or access to KOLs and medical professional associations. Collaborate with internal and external technology functions to identify new consumer healthcare solutions for pain. Lead medical assessments of new technologies and innovations, and develop technical go/no go recommendations. Work with global medical and regulatory functions to develop action standards for efficacy/performance/regulatory suitability. With Clinical Research function, develop protocol/design/plan for proof-of-principle clinical studies for new technologies. Support business development and market research activities of the global innovation team. Communicate/translate scientific/medical/technical knowledge to claims credible with both the consumer and health care professional. Train, mentor and learn from other company scientists and healthcare professionals.

Qualifications

A life science doctoral degree (MD, DO, PhD, PharmD) is required. For healthcare providers, an active unrestricted license to practice medicine is preferred. For physicians, board certification (or equivalent) is desirable. Certification in rheumatology and/or pain management is preferable.
Patient care experience is required. Pharmaceutical experience and/or exposure to clinical research in an academic setting is preferred. Complimentary or alternative pain therapies experience is preferred. Clinical research and development experience, especially experience working with pain medicines and products is preferable. Expertise in pharmaceutical new product and claims development including line extensions and Rx-to-OTC switches is preferred?
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills are required. Motivated, self-starting team player with the leadership qualities needed to participate on global cross-functional teams is required. Analytical and presentation skills that facilitate translating scientific/medical/technical concepts to non-scientists clearly and concisely is required. Strong oral and written English skills are required.
This position is based in Fort Washington, PA and requires 10% domestic and international travel.
