Associate Executive Director of Development
Job Description

The RAND Corporation has been expanding the boundaries of human knowledge for 60 years. An independent, nonprofit institution with a research staff consisting of some of the world’s preeminent minds, RAND provides research and analysis that keeps policymakers ahead of the curve on the issues that matter most, such as health care, education, national security, civil justice, the environment, and more.


 


RAND is seeking an experienced fundraising and development professional to serve as the Associate Executive Director of Development, assisting with the management, budgeting and administration of RAND’s Development Office, including approximately 15 full time staff.  The Associate Executive Director will assist with recruiting and stewarding Advisory Board members who make an annual philanthropic commitment, and solicit major gifts to support RAND priorities. This individual will also assist with financial, budget, and personnel operations.


 


The Associate Executive Director will report to the Executive Director of Development within the Office of External Affairs and work closely with a team that includes directors of community relations, outreach, Internet communications, congressional relations, and media relations.


 


Responsibilities include: planning and leading initiatives designed to develop and expand relationships with current and potential donors across RAND; preparation of written and oral presentations of development program and gift opportunities to internal audiences, prospects and donors, and volunteer leaders; participation in annual budget, business planning, and personnel evaluation processes; cultivation and solicitation of major gifts; and creating and advancing strategic development plan for philanthropic support and annual goal setting.


 


A successful candidate will have the following:


 


·    Experience creating strategic and business plans for development programs.


·    Experience raising funds from individuals, corporations, and foundations.


·    Experience supervising and managing development officers.


·    Strong written and verbal communication skills.


·    Interest in working collaboratively with colleagues in the Office of External Affairs and on research teams.


 


Educational requirements: BA/BS degree, graduate degree a plus


 


Related experience: Minimum 8 years


 


This position will be located in Santa Monica, CA.
