Associate Manager-State Sales & Use/Property Tax
This position is part of the North America Financial Shared Services organization and is responsible for all aspects of Sales, Use and Property Tax. Responsibilities include:
Preparation / Review of Returns
- Actively participate in preparation and/or review of Sales, Use and Property Tax Returns
- Generate tax savings for Mead Johnson in the areas of audits, negotiations and all appropriate tax exemptions for Mead Johnson
- Initiate changes as a result of tax audits, law changes and correct any procedural deficiencies. Build alignment by notifying Business Units of these changes.
- Lead strategically by establishing, developing and defending sound tax positions
Lead Transition of Responsibilities
- Lead the transition of Sales, Use and Property Tax responsibilities from Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMS) in New Jersey to Mead Johnson in Evansville
- Actively participate as a Subject Matter Expert in the project to get Mead Johnson to a stand alone company
Compliance Management
- Ensure compliance with current tax law
- Assist FSS Management in negotiating with state auditors and create new processes to produce additional tax savings.
Budget
- Prepare and manage the use and property tax budgets
Collaborative Team Work
- Work closely with BMS tax group to ensure proper transfer of knowledge
- Liaise with MJN business partners and ensure agreed procedures are followed
- Provide N.A. FSS Manager with effective support

- BS/BA Accounting or Finance, required.
- CPA/CMA or MBA preferred.
- 4 to 6 years of state tax experience.
- Extensive knowledge of sales and use tax concepts and ability to deal with government agencies.
- Strong tax law research skills and proficiency with tax software.
- Experience with SAP strongly preferred.
- Solid leadership skills and strong interpersonal skills.
- Account reconciliation experience to support return activity
- Self motivated, results oriented, ability to multi-task and work independently or as a group lead.
- Advanced knowledge of tax research and preparation software.
