Automation Support Technician

Packers Plus is the pioneer of open hole, multi-stage horizontal fracturing and we provide technology-based solutions to the oil and gas industry around the world. We are looking for an Automation Support Technician in our Houston, Texas office.

Primary Role

·         Automation Support Technician will be responsible for the daily maintenance of the ATS Automated Assembly Cells for the manufacture of Packers Plus equipment. Technician will be the point person when it comes to mechanical maintenance activities on the machines and periphery equipment, resolving faults and errors on the machines, re-teaching the robot and vision systems as necessary. Train all new hires on the proper methods of operating the machines.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

·         Spend several weeks in training at our Edmonton facility rotating back to Houston intermittently.

·         Train all new hires on the correct processes and procedures for assembling the tools on the automated cells.

·         Train all new hires on the correct method of diagnosing faults on the machines and the correct steps to be taken to resolve those faults.

·         Be the plant “train the trainer” for all relevant training courses.

·         Take the lead and direct the team members on the proper maintenance steps required for the equipment.

·         Evaluate faults histories on the machines and develop action plans to permanently resolve the issues if possible.

·         Update/correct position and sequence on the machines as necessary.

·         Update/correct vision steps/requirements to facilitate better production output.

·         Make required changes to SAMS programs & BOM’s to accommodate part assembly changes.

·         Change dialogue on operator interface screen to match any changes.

·         Act as an additional resource and back up as needed.

·         Assist with the making of guides or manuals for specific tasks as they relate to the automation systems.

·         Participate in all continuous improvement & troubleshooting workshops to improve assembly process, cycle time and part quality.

Educational, Physical and Safety Requirements

·         High School diploma

·         Ability to lift 50 pounds

·         Mechanical Aptitude

Competencies, Skills and Experience

·         Working knowledge of Excel, VBA & C+ an asset.

·         Good problem solving skills.

·         Willing to work shifts and overtime as production requirements warrant.

·         Well rounded written and verbal communication skills.

·         Knowledge of Packers Plus products or other related oilfield tools would be an asset but not a requirement.

·         A motivated self starter and a dependable team player.

·         Comfortable dealing with computer controlled equipment.

·         Experience with ABB Robots an asset but not a requirement.
