Bank Operations Manager, AVP

Position Summary

Reporting to the Executive Vice President, this position will be part of the Operations Management Team who will support the Customer Care, Cash Management and Operations Support departments.  In addition, this individual will serve periodically as Project Manager on Operations projects with deliverables as well as identify, plan and implement business processes for improvement.  This individual will serve as liaison between the customers, technical teams and 3rd party solution providers to help enhance, design and develop our banking solutions. This management position will coach, mentor and train all of the Operation’s Representatives, Senior Representatives, and Assistant Managers.  This Bank Officer will carry the responsibility of $20,000 credit authority and $40 million in posting authority.  This individual will handle a variety of duties while insuring a high level of customer service is maintained, as well as insure that all banking procedures are strictly followed to prevent loss to the bank.  This incumbent will stand in for the EVP, Operations as needed, so he/she must have both knowledge and experience in the bank operations field.  Given these responsibilities, there is a high operational and financial risk involved.  

 

Responsibilities

  • Manages Operations subordinate staff and oversees their business processes.  Must coach, inspire, hire and terminate for all positions in additional to annual goal setting and reviews.
  • Analyze data requirements for banking/business applications being developed and act as liaison between developers, 3rd party solution providers and customers while conducting detailed current system and/or competitive product analysis, as well as assists with preparation of the annual operating budget by providing data and calculating expected costs and income.  Researches, analyzes, and provides recommendations on cost savings measures.
  • Reasearches, analyzes, evaulates and documents requirements to modify existing applications to provide efficiency and cost savings for the bank. Research the needs of the end user.  Proposes and develops solutions to balance the requirements of the business and the needs of the end user.
  • Effectively and professionally communicates and coordinates with end users, project team members, Bank IT, other First Command employees, consultants and business partners as needed in order to accomplish business projects. Lead project team to carry out communications plan developed for the project and leads initiatives throughout the system development life cycle.
  • Seek out training, reading materials and professional groups that enhance the knowledge of tools and techniques required of the job, as well as successfully complete required regulatory training.
  • Coordinates and communicates with the EVP, Operations and VP, Bank IT Manager in areas of the project that require their expertise and involvement. Develops detailed functional specifications, participates and assists in the development of test planning.
  • Must be knowledgeable of all Bank Operations procedures and policies in order to assist the EVP, Operations on the daily requirements of running the bank. Stays current on all changes affecting the bank and communicates these changes to Operations staff to ensure compliance. This incumbent has frequent interaction with Holding Company personnel in the areas of Financial Accounting, Product Development, Human Resources, Property Management, and IT.

 

Supervisory Responsibility

Incumbent must be a mature, professional individual able to address problems and recommend a solution to quickly resolve personnel or client issues. This position is responsible for salary and performance reviews and directly responsible for the supervision and production of the Operation’s Assistant Supervisors, Senior Representatives, and staff Representatives.

 

 

Qualifications

            Education

·         High school education or equivalent

·         College degree or 10 years banking experience required

Work Experience

·         At least 6 years banking experience required in bank operations field

·         5 years of supervisory experience required

·         1-2 years Business Analyst experienced preferred

·         5 years First Command Bank operations experience preferred  

·         Satisfactory credit and background history required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

·         Possess a high level of analytical skills and applies those skills in the resolution of business problems. Must be comfortable working with high ranking executives and possesses highly effective communication skills, both verbally and written.

·         Must be throughly familiar with all areas of bank operations, including legal, procedural and policy areas. Must be able to evaluate and document the business processes to accurately depict the current and future state while developing accurate timelines for duration of tasks to be used in project planning.

·         Must be able to work independently with little or no supervision, self-motivated and demonstrate initiative to take on new tasks.

·         Must be customer oriented and maintain a professional demeanor at all times as well as ask probing questions to determine customer needs.

·         Must be detail oriented, possess strong organizational skills, and trust worthy and comfortable working in a highly confidential business environment.

·         Must be able to quickly learn and apply new information.
