Boiler Integrity Engineer

This position is for Weyerhaeuser's Liquid Packaging Board business, which produces bleached paperboard used to make cartons and cups for liquids such as milk, juice, coffee and sake under the brand name Structure-Pak. This business produces 260,000 metric tons of paperboard each year -- the equivalent of 6 billion liter-sized milk cartons. This facility began operations in Longview, WA in 1953 and employs about 500 people. This position is part of the Longview Engineering Department. The Engineering Department manages the mill's capital and maintenance projects to support our continued improvements in the Fiberline, Paper Machine, Wet Lap, Fiber Supply and Energy & Utility operations.
 
Key Functions:
This Engineering position primarily supports the Energy & Utilities group around their Power and Recovery Boiler equipment operation along with steam turbines and pressure vessels. Responsibilities and accountabilities encompass compliance with Company, State and Federal regulations for boilers, pressure vessels and tanks with emphases on system reliability, energy management with efficient cost control.  The position also includes project development, scoping and implementation of both capital and maintenance projects.
 
Essential Functions
  • Participate and lead as appropriate safety process improvements to ensure an injury free work site.  Strong   commitment to safety is a must.
  • Ensure compliance with Company. Federal and State regulations for boilers, pressure vessels and tanks.
  • Help support the proper operation of boilers and pressure vessels to minimize risk.
  • Project management of alterations, additions, maintenance outages.
  • Maximize boiler and utilities reliability in a cost effective manner;
  • Assist in maintenance downs relative to planning, established budgets, contractor management, procurement of parts and materials, documentation, and  coordination with Insurance Underwriters.
  • Lead mechanical failure analysis and problem solving on associated equipment, proven troubleshooting abilities
  • Ensure critical spare parts are kept in repair and ready state.
  • Utilize maintenance and financial software systems to perform job functions for work order processing, purchase requisitions and project cost accounting.

Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, or similar qualifying BS degree
  • 5 years experience,  preferred in pulp and paper related manufacturing, construction or project management
  • Some working knowledge or experience around recovery systems or steam and power generation is  preferred .
  • Experience with contractor administration and management.
  • Communications and interpersonal skills consistent with managing multiple priorities in a team environment.
  • Willingness to work extended hours and off shifts when conditions warrant.
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office products
  • Team oriented, ability to work independently, self-motivated.
