The Technology Systems Analysis Group within the Energy and Environment Directorate at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory-Battelle is currently seeking a Building Energy Systems Modeler. This position involves using building simulation tools to model and conduct simulations of building energy systems for high-efficiency residential and commercial buildings and for innovative technologies. Previous experience in using building simulation tools such as EnergyPlus or DOE-2 is desired. This position will be assisting project teams with building simulation analysis for building energy codes and standards development as well as high performance building energy analysis. EnergyPlus analysis for HVAC and other commercial equipment and appliances, as well as building energy simulation analysis will be an expectation of this position. Additionally, this position may involve impact analysis for building systems and technologies, supporting multiple projects for the government and private sector. The project may involve research on energy efficiency, sustainable design practices, and carbon management strategies.
Level I
A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in engineering disciplines such as Civil/Architecture Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Building Sciences or related with 0-1 years experience or a Master's degree in Civil/Architecture Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Building Sciences or related is required. Expected to contribute professionally, applying basic theories, principles, methods, tools and technologies to well-defined assignments of limited scope.
Level II
Bachelor's degree in Civil/Architecture Engineering, Mechanical Engineer, and Building Sciences or related with 2-3 years experience or a Master's degree in Civil/Architecture Engineering, Mechanical Engineer, Building Sciences or related with 0-2 years experience or a Ph.D. is required. Expected to contribute professionally, building a professional reputation for technical expertise. Fully applying and interpreting standard theories, principles, methods, tools and technologies.
Experience with the use of EnergyPlus or DOE-2 is preferred. Experience with other energy modeling tools a plus. Strong interpersonal skills required.
Coursework in energy efficiency, energy-related systems, energy metering technology, energy systems analysis and modeling, building energy simulations, business, economics, water conservation, sustainable development/design, or environmental science is preferred.
