Position Overview The Key Account & Commercial Manager NAFTA will be the ?One face to the customer? and will represent Evonik Degussa Exclusive Synthesis & Amino Acids and its subsidiaries towards top pharmaceutical key and other selected accounts with respect to the whole product and technology portfolio (toll/custom manufacturing, commercial branch products) .The Key Account & Commercial Manager NAFTA will be responsible for acquiring new business and driving the growth of Evonik Degussa, Business Line Exclusive Synthesis & Amino Acids at US based major pharmaceutical operations. The individual will play a major role in business development activities and will have a significant impact on sales performance, particularly in the intermediate to long-term. Overall marketing responsibilities will include representation of the whole Exclusive Synthesis & Amino Acids product and technology portfolio, revenue responsibility, competitive analysis, forecasting, promotion and industry trade shows. The Key Account & Commercial Manager NAFTA will be responsible for assigned key accounts and will independently analyze the accounts, the product portfolio and the outsourcing strategy and will define a strategy on how to deal with the individual accounts. The Key Account & Commercial Manager NAFTA will manage new custom synthesis projects as the interface between the Sites, the PRD department, legal/licensing department and the Customers. This position works very closely with the designated Pharmaceutical customer service representatives.
Principal Accountabilities: At key accounts, competently act as "The One Face to the Customer" on chemical, technical and commercial issues throughout developmental and commercial phases. Identify and acquire new business opportunities leveraging Evonik Degussa?s technologies and custom manufacturing capabilities. Scope of effort will include raw materials, intermediates and/or bulk actives through all phases of development to mature product outsourcing. Conduct technical marketing presentations at pharmaceutical companies at both the commercial and technical levels. Advise development team on merits of potential projects with respect to ability to expand technology base and contribute to long term business growth. Develop short and long term forecasts and business plans for the pharmaceutical market. Prepare marketing promotional programs. Establish presence with major trade associations and industry forums. Watch and proactively anticipate new trends in the US Pharma/Biotech market and derive ideas for potential benefit for Evonik. Interact with all levels of management both within Evonik Degussa and at the customers. Candidate Qualifications and Experience: Must have a BS degree ideally Organic Chemistry or related life science. PhD or MBA is highly desirable. Must have 3+ years experience in an industrial research and development department, or similar experience with and exposure to chemical research and development. Must have a high level of understanding of the Pharmaceutical Development Process, including GMP. Must have 3+ years sales/marketing experience with frequent customer interface. Must possess an established network of contacts in the pharmaceutical industry. Basic understanding of TSCA, OSHA and other regulatory systems affecting the chemical industry. Must have a basic understanding of the legal terms in supply and confidentiality agreements, negotiation experience a plus. Must have a willingness to travel, including internationally. Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Must have the ability to work in an international multidisciplinary team.
