Business Development Manager

Position Description:
Responsible for identifying opportunities for the expansion of Corporate and Professional Education initiatives and supporting program development. Responsible for sales, revenue generation and customer relations associated with delivery of quality graduate, graduate certificate and non-credit programs for targeted business and technical sector clients. Ability to run a segment of the Corporate and Professional Education business plan.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Recruit and qualify potential companies and students for graduate, graduate certificate and non-credit programs.
- Establish and maintain relationships within the business community in order to advance the profile of Corporate and Professional Education at WPI.
- Identify opportunities for graduate, graduate certificate programs and non-credit training initiatives through fostering strong relationships with students and all levels of client management.
- Identify changes in technology that could result in new program opportunities and submit a business case supporting the initiative.
- Assist the Dean and Directors with the planning and implementation of future programs.
- Attain budget related revenue goals for sales; budgetary responsibility for the maintenance of key accounts.
- Provide information to the Directors on program cost-effectiveness and prepare solutions to increase department efficiency.
- Demonstrate creativity and resourcefulness in determining how to serve internal and external customers.
- Plan, schedule and coordinate multiple tasks through project completion for curriculum development, implementation and assessment.
- Lead coordination and follow-up of data related to the management and cost effectiveness of the various business units. Provide regular reports to the Director and Dean monitoring overall business financial health and sector health.
- Will interact with the highest level of client management including, but not limited to, general managers, vice presidents, presidents and board members. On a normal and consistent basis will interact with department chairs, faculty and members of the Provost's staff.
- Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree required (or equivalent industry experience) preferably in a scientific, technical or engineering discipline; advanced degree a plus.
- 5+years experience working with industry in a sales role.
- Background in defining needs related to Science and Engineering or Life Sciences within manufacturing and technical corporations.
- Strong knowledge of account development and ability to drive revenue.
- A dynamic individual capable of being an appropriate representative of WPI.
- Strong written and verbal communicator, able to make professional presentations on short lead times.
- Ability to work evenings on occassion.
- Travel is required, (New England and beyond) including the possibility of overnight travel on occassion.
- Excellent Microsoft Office and computer skills required, as well as familiarity with other personal computer applications.
