We are seeking a Business Development / Product Manager for the following direct-hire position with our client in Charlotte, Michigan.  In this role, you will work in collaboration with Sales, Marketing and Engineering to develop and execute business, technology and product development plans.

           

SUMMARY: Works in collaboration with Sales, Market Team Management and Engineering to develop and execute business, technology and product development plans.

 

·         Key preface: If the candidate does not have industry relevant experience (Delivery & Service, Fire Truck Chassis/Apparatus, Recreational Vehicle) he/she must: (i) demonstrate an ability to quickly progress through a new industry learning curve, (ii) maintain a humble disposition, (iii) invest time (inside/outside office hours) to build relationships and the industry knowledge.

·         A passion for his/her professional career and an interest in continuous learning and a willingness to invest the time required to deliver the required progress and deliver for the team

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Summary Statement: Assist (and lead where appropriate) a cross functional group in developing a pipeline of brand-defining products against aggressive timelines to bring products to market, and position them to compete favorably against other competitive offerings.  This must be accomplished in line with the established financial and strategic targets.

 

Primary

·         Utilize primary research, syndicated research (secondary research), industry information/publications and manage inputs from partners, dealers, suppliers and other members of the extended enterprise to:

·      Assess current and emerging trends across different categories and adjacent categories

·      Develop objective assessment of market opportunity:

·      Explore and define unmet customer needs in current and adjacent categories

·      Interface with inside sales, field sales teams, RSM (Regional Sales Managers) and industry personnel to understand the voice of the customer

·      Track and estimate adoption of new technologies and new product features

·      Provides an assessment of product portfolios, product roadmaps and vintage charts and recommends adjustments and a long-term new product development plan.

·      Includes the ability to look across Market Teams to recommend new product development tradeoffs

·      Provides recommended product nomenclature and naming conventions to establish more impactful line logic.

·      Establish and maintain competitive product matrixes and serve as the company’s go to location for competitive insights.

·      Gathers/organizes sales and market share data.

·      Complete basic ROI calculations associated with the costs to develop new products

 

Secondary

·         Collect, interpret, and/or analyze complex data and information

·         Attends conventions, conferences, and trade shows as needed; prepares post-event reports and analysis.

·         Travels with field sales personnel and can interact with customers effectively to understand unmet needs (product and potentially service)

·         Performs other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

·         Four to six years related experience or equivalent. Must include experience with new product development (from cradle to grave / end-of-life)

·         Experience with tiered distribution systems (dealers/distributors)

·         Experience with typical new product development systems such as 6 Sigma, Staged Gate, etc.

·         Three plus years of authentic strategic planning experience

·         Durable goods marketing experience

·         Knowledge of brand management systems -  not a requirement (from: FMCC / CPG)

·         Three plus years of authentic strategic planning experience (more than data or info submission or compilation)

·         Understanding of pipeline management systems

·         Strong digital capacity (work tools and web)

·         Intermediate to excellent proficiency with excel (including pivot tables), MSFT Project the other applications within MSFT office

·         Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) or equivalent in related field.

·         Commitment to excellence and high standards.

·         Very good written and oral communication skills.

·         Excellent presentation skills.

·         Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills.

·         Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm

·         Demonstrated ability to plan and organize projects

·         Base working knowledge of at least one CAD application - SMI runs Solidworks

·         Proven leadership and business acumen skills (including the ability to read a P&L

·         Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines
