Job Overview
Elicits requirements from business line stakeholders and subject matter experts; obtains further requirements details to satisfy needs of technology teams and others, while avoiding design / type discussions
Active listener, able come to a correct understanding of business needs and clarify any areas of requirements ambiguity.
Must be capable of determining and communicating business line needs from the hows of the project
Facilitation
Facilitate requirements gathering sessions, excellent meeting management skills
Able to hold focused meetings, with clearly expressed objectives. Involves only stakeholders pertinent to a discussion or decision.
Documentation
Document and manage change to requirements according to internal standards and industry best practices
Analyze requirements documentation for redundancies, contradictions, and completeness
Understands the necessity of requirement documentation standards and applies them consistently.
Knowledge of when to appropriately utilize: business requirements, use case diagrams, business rules, functional requirements, non-functional requirements, use case narratives, and UML activity diagrams
Experience with Rational Software Modeler and Rational Requisite Pro (or similar requirements management tool), ability to support novice users of this tool and promote usage in projects
Leadership
Provides oversight for other requirements analysts working on same or separate projects
Able to explain importance of requirements process to stakeholders unfamiliar with what constitutes requirements and what constitutes design.
Experience establishing requirements best practices, tools, and processes such as RUP
Planning
Responsible for planning the requirements management approach for a given project
Breaks down complex, strategic, company-wide projects into manageable chunks for requirements
Understands and suggests when modifications to standard deliverables are needed
Prioritizes multiple tasks/projects effectively.
