Buyer / Planner
Job Summary
Reporting to the Sr. Director of Operations, the Buyer/Planner will be responsible for the planning, organizing and procurement of materials and services with every aspect of supply chain management in a manufacturing environment.
Essential Functions
- Plan Orders and procure materials in support of outsource and site requirements.
- Tactical sourcing of materials and services for the manufacturing cells.
- Work pro-actively, on a daily basis, with the manufacturing supervisors, procurement and other departments to ensure schedules are maintained and material is readily available.
- Obtain quotes and participate in the development of end-item product cost.
- Monitor and maintain inventory levels.
- Establish and perform planning database maintenance in order to minimize inventory investments and load. For example, order quantities, lead times, order policies, shrink factors, buyer/planner data fields, etc.
- Participate in cost reductions and productivity improvement programs.
- Process disposition or material rejects and obsolete materials.
- Provide feedback to suppliers on their quality, delivery and cost reduction performance against standards.
- Responsible for understanding developments and changes at suppliers that may affect the material supply.
- Actively participate in various manufacturing cell projects and product savings initiatives.
- Demonstrate sound and logical sourcing principles to drive total cost reduction results.
- Participate in the research and development of product specifications that meet the requirements of the end item products they support.
Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in Business or related field is preferred or an Associates' Degree with five plus years materials planning and purchasing experience.
- Working knowledge of MRP principles and materials management is a must.
- APICS certification; CPIM preferred.
- Must have experience purchasing electronic components.
- Experience working with electronic contract manufacturing sources.
- Experience working in a Lean Manufacturing environment.
- High degree of initiative is required.
- Ability to follow through on tasks to completion.
- Good analytical and problem solving skills.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Microsoft computer skills are absolutely required.
