CFO w/Startup Experience Needed
Our client, a large membership organization with over one million members and 150 affiliate locations nationwide, has recently established a centralized Shared Services Organization (SSO) in the greater Detroit area. The SSO will streamline operations for our client and bring the core business functionality currently managed at the local level - accounting and reporting, dues processing/member data, membership care/call center, and IT - under one roof. They are looking for a Chief Financial Officer for the SSO. This is a 90 day contractor-to-hire opportunity that is available immediately.
Summary
This position is the highest level financial executive in the SSO Corporation, responsible for providing the highest level of financial expertise. The ideal candidate will be a senior level accounting/finance executive with startup expertise. Significant experience dealing with the change management and growth issues involved in a new organization is required.
General Responsibilities
This position is responsible for the general financial operations for the SSO including: financial planning, internal accounting, internal and external financial and management reporting, banking relationships, contract negotiations, risk management, and assisting executive and management level associates with financial issues related to their departmental operations. This is an exempt executive level position within the SSO.
Management Responsibilities
· Responsible for all internal financial policies and procedures (assuring internal control, levels of approval authority, standard service contract terms and exception approval process, requisitioning and purchasing procedures, travel and expense reimbursement rules, etc.).
· Establishes the annual financial plan.
· Supervises the internal accounting department.
· Internal and external financial and management reporting, including developing SSO service performance measurement standards.
· Facilitates the monthly/ quarterly/ annual financial performance review with the management team.
· Participates in the negotiation of all service contracts and leases.
· Responsible for arranging the annual independent audit.
· Responsible for procuring business insurance.
· Participates in establishing, reviewing and routine adjustment of service fee rates.
· Participates in service level agreement terms.
· Provides high level financial expertise to the Accounting Services Department: participates in decisions related to application of new accounting and regulatory reporting rules as they pertain to the standard reporting of the Local’s financial results.
· Responsible for approving all contracts entered into by the SSO for goods and services (office equipment purchases and leases, service contracts, etc.).
· Participation in the negotiation of Labor Contracts for unionized SSO workers.
· Responsible for all banking relationships: investment of cash balances, borrowing, and cash management.
· Check and wire payment signatory.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required, CPA preferred. Experience in a startup operation required. Experience in a non-profit (fund accounting) organization a plus.
Compensation
This is a 90 day contractor-to-hire opportunity. During the initial trial period, the salary is $9,500.00/month, or $114,400.00 on an annualized basis. At the end of the 90 day period, assuming both parties are agreeable to move forward to FTE status, the salary immediately increases to $10,833.00/month, or $130,960.00 on an annual basis.
