CLAIMS SPECIALIST - EMPLOYMENT PRACTICES LIABILITY-LICENSED ATTORNEYS ONLY
CNA Insurance, one of the world's premier insurance organizations, is currently recruiting for claims professionals to handle employment practices liability claims in our 40 Wall Street Office in New York City. CNA is a top-ranked company in written premium in professional liability coverage. Our employment practices liability book of business is highly-successful and growing which has created the need for us to add three additional claims professionals.
We are currently seeking attorneys to monitor and analyze employment practices liability claims. These claims can range in size from fairly simple claims to large, complex claims involving employment practices liability. These claims adjusters typically carry a caseload of 170-175 claims.
The job entails investigating, evaluating and resolving complex coverage and/or liability issues. Additionally, candidates will be coordinating with outside counsel to effectively direct litigation strategy in all Federal and State jurisdictions to achieve optimal disposition through litigation or settlement alternative.
Ideal candidates will have one to four years experience as an insurance coverage attorney with a law firm, a claims analyst with an insurance company, or one to four years of employment law experience. Excellent oral/written communication skills and negotiation skills a must. The ability to work independently also required.
Job Summary
Under technical direction, investigates and maintains employment practices liability claims. Works within specific limits of authority on assignments requiring significant technical complexity and coordination. Utilizing claims policies and guidelines, reviews coverages, determines liability and compensability, secures information, arranges property damage appraisals, and negotiates and settles claims.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
1. Interprets more complex or unusual policy coverages and determines if coverages apply to claims submitted, escalating issues as needed.
2. Sets reserves and authorizes payment within scope of authority, effectively settling claims in most cost effective manner and ensuring timely issuance of disbursements.
3. Coordinates and performs investigations and evaluates claims and suits through contact with insureds, claimants, witnesses and experts.
4. Utilizes negotiation skills to develop complex settlement packages.
5. Identifies claims with third party recovery potential and coordinates with subrogation/salvage unit.
6. Works with attorneys, account representatives, agents, doctors and insureds regarding the handling and/or disposition of more complex claims.
7. Analyzes claims activities and prepares reports for management.
8. May update the claims systems.
9. May provide guidance and assistance to other claims staff and functional areas.
10. Keeps current on state/territory regulations and issues as well as industry activity and trends.
May perform additional duties as assigned.
