Nurse Manager - Crisis Stabilization Unit
Job Summary: This position provides modeling, leadership, and supervision to staff and coordination of services to clients. Working with and reporting to the Chief Nursing Officer, responsibilities include, but are not limited to: screening and interviewing of applicants for unit vacancies; orientation for new employees and coordination of continuing education in conjunction with Human Resources; coordination and provision of 24/7 nursing services; scheduling and validation of shifts worked (E-time); managing/ordering medication and other supplies; conducting staff meetings; investigation of unusual occurrences and peer review; initiation of and/or participation in process improvement initiatives; progressive disciplinary actions; participation in appropriate management meetings and pertinent organizational committees; real-time supervision as needed and written reviews as required by Human Resources
GENERAL DUTIES (Note: The examples of work as listed in this position description are not necessarily descriptive of any one position in this class. Administrative Responsibilities
Supervises Nurses and non-medical staff assigned to CSU, hires, orients, conducts performance reviews, and makes recommendations regarding any disciplinary action required. Insures staff are receiving training as required by the Center and the Unit.
Insures that the CSU scheduling for nurses, psychiatric technician, and security technicians is sufficient to address acuity needs of the unit based upon acute care staffing patterns.
Regularly schedules nursing and psych tech/security tech staff meetings to address on-going training, supervision, and organizational needs of the program.
Is responsible for participating as an active member of the management team in coordinating activities between Emergency Screening, Access, and the Acute Care programs.
Completes documentation, peer review and seclusion and restraint audits as dictated by policy and procedure
Clinical Responsibilities
Conducts nursing assessment for clients admitted to the CSU.
Assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the treatment plan based on the medical needs identified in the nursing assessment.
Interprets, transcribes, and assists in the implementation of physicians orders.
Participates in the client and family education process.
Ensures that necessary safety precautions are taken based on the clients condition and facility policy.
Provides effective and accurate documentation in progress notes, discharge summary, and other required reports.
Performs crisis prevention and interventions needed, including restraints.
Assists in providing adequate nursing and non-medical coverage as needed.
Facilitate therapeutic groups. Provides group and/or individual supervision.
Participates in the Continuous Quality Improvement Process.
Interacts with community agencies and resources.
Assists in the completion of peer reviews and documentation audits.
Monitors 3rd party and/or contracted services requirements.
Communicates with supervisor regarding any programmatic changes and/or problems which present themselves.
Assures proper completion and timely flow of paperwork.
Regularly attends patient rounds to insure the appropriate care of the patient population and communicates any issues to the Vice President of Acute Care Services that require attention.
Performs other duties as required to meet program and departmental goals and objectives.
Minimum Qualifications : Bachelors degree in nursing from an accredited college or university and two (2) years experience in psychiatric nursing, one (1) of which must be in a supervisory capacity. OR Associates degree in nursing from an accredited college or university and five (5) years experience, two (2) of which must be in a psychiatric setting. One year of the required experience must be in a supervisory capacity.
Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Florida.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Specific competencies required are identified on a department/program specific basis and identified in each employees Competency Checklist. The following are general and apply to all positions with this title.
