JOB DESCRIPTION

CNC Programmer/Machinist

 

SUMMARY

Produce machined parts by programming, setting up, and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine; maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Ø  Program mills using Mastercam, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs.

 

Ø  Set-up mills by installing and adjusting three- and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings; indicating vices, etc.

 

Ø  Verify settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample work pieces; adhering to international standards.

 

Ø  Produce machined parts and meet a rated production target.

 

Ø  Maintain equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.

 

Ø  Document actions by completing production and quality logs.

 

Ø  Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.

 

Ø  Accomplish organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

 

SKILLS

Understands technical drawings and documents.

Ability to work independently.

Knowledge of the following:

• Basic inspection instruments such as Vernier Caliper, Micrometer, Dial Indicator, Comparator, etc.

• Selecting cutting tools, cutting parameters based on blue print requirement to manufacture the part in the most cost effective manner.

• Jigs and fixtures design and manufacturing is an added advantage.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Three or more years of machining and Mastercam programming experience are required.  Reading and writing skills equivalent to those obtained by completion of high school.  Basic math, geometry and trigonometry.
