Working as the technical accounting analyst, activities involve working with the Technical Accounting Manager to address complex accounting and financial reporting issues by providing technical accounting advice and strategic guidance for complex financial accounting issues relating to employee benefit plans. Work involves assisting in the drafting of technical accounting whitepapers, developing financial statements and footnotes, as well as interaction with many internal functions, external auditors and other technical accounting resources. Work involves a high level of independent judgment, decision making, creativity and initiative. Analyze quantitative data or complex problems of various types. Develop new methods of analysis, select methods of data presentation, such as charts, diagrams, and graphs. Work involves a high level of independent judgment, decision-making, accuracy, creativity, and initiative. Occasionally instruct or assign work to others. Daily / monthly job duties will include: Basic Required:
• Maintain frequent contact and perform various financial activities with others outside the work group
• Assist Employee Benefit Accounting resources in complying with GM Accounting Policy, U.S. GAAP and local GAAP (when applicable); create related corporate accounting policy based on US GAAP
• Research accounting issues and determine appropriate guidance and assist in the development of technical accounting whitepapers
• Analyze, interpret, and implement new, existing and proposed accounting standards
• Identify, interpret, and analyze potential accounting risks and issues
• Prepare data for corporate financial statements and employee benefit related footnotes
• Provide and maintain supporting documentation for accounting work and ongoing controls testing
• Provide internal and / or external financial analysis, consultation and decision support
• Assist in developing / communicating global corporate accounting policies and practices
• Degree in Accounting and CPA or equivalent - active license holder
• Previous Public Accounting experience (minimum 2 years)
• Knowledge of U.S. GAAP accounting
• Demonstrated process improvement skills
• Outstanding project and change management skills
• Excellent communication (oral and written), team building, and planning skills
• Aptitude to resolve issues under tight timeframes and pressure
• Proactive work style; desire to take on additional responsibilities
• Proficient PC skills--Word, Excel, Access, Lotus Notes
• Ability to prioritize assignments/projects and multi-task within restricted time constraints
• Solid Understanding of Internal Controls
Basic Preferred:
• Specialized knowledge in technical topics relating to employee benefit plan accounting such as US GAAP, FAS 35, 87, 88, 106, 112, 132(R), 158, etc.
• Understanding of various employee benefit programs such as healthcare, defined contribution, defined benefit, worker's compensation, life insurance, vacation, fringe benefits, etc.
