| Category Business Analyst
Job Description: The Category Business Analyst will be responsible for utilizing various analytical and research methods to track, analyze and report on new and existing category performance within all assigned channels. The Category Business Analyst will work principally to support Category VP and Category Team. The ideal candidate will be expected to draw insights and conclusions and make recommendations based on a complete and thorough understanding of research and data in support of the team’s business objectives. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for measurement, analysis and reporting of category related data and performance including; growth drivers and inhibitors, customer segment performance, distribution channel mix, vendor program analysis, GMROI analysis, sku performance and income performance, catalog page/sku performance, track dealer marketing and education participation and growth trends, etc. Preparation of ad hoc profitability analyses to explain the reasons behind sub par or declining performance and to identify steps needed to improve. Utilization of their own insights, through independent analysis of market, sales and financial data to develop and research other areas that could drive achievement of the category team objectives. Analysis of customer/consumer research results and category management information and recommend action steps to take. Development of best practices to implement and optimize reporting, measurement and insight development. Develop effective cross-functional relationships with USSCO, ORS Nasco and Lagasse personnel in order to effectively accomplish the responsibilities of the position. Model the financial impact of potential program or price changes being examined by the category or sales teams and determine explanations for any unusual elements. Evaluation of results to support key decision-making and provide proactive recommendations for enhancement actions to improve performance. Work cross-company on projects important to the growth of the category and represent the best interests of the Supply division. Analysis of customer Price Plans and Custom Contracts that impact the profitability and growth of the category. Serve as the category’s Liaison to the finance and pricing groups. Identification and assessment of pricing and margin trends, including custom contract impact, and recommendation of improvement targets. Engage in the vendor and cross dock activities between USSCO,ORS Nasco, Lagasse, and our suppliers, in conjunction with our product management team, to assist in the smooth execution of the product sourcing, delivery, shipment, etc. within scope of our category team goals.
KEY REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's Degree required - Business, Marketing or Finance preferred. 3 - 5 years experience in an analytical environment. Ability to interact and communicate effectively with associates in all areas and at all levels of the Company. Strong analytical and problem solving skills. Advanced Excel capabilities to include experience with query/reporting tools. Ability to learn and become proficient on several internal information processing systems including FOCUS, Hyperion, Access, Trend, etc. Excellent communications skills (verbal, written, presentation). Excellent problem solving skills and an attention to detail. Fundamental understanding of financial statement details. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines. Capability to advance beyond this position within the organization.
