The qualifications for the Service tech and Chiller Mechanic are as follows:
Service Technicians
- 3 years of experience working as a Service Tech minimum.
- Test electrical circuits or components for functionality .
- Must be able to install, service, and troubleshoot refrigerant and condensate piping .
- Reassemble and test equipment following repairs.
- Repair or replace defective equipment, components, or wiring.
- Lay out and connect electrical wiring between controls and equipment according to wiring diagrams.
- Have an EPA Universal certification
- Install, connect, and adjust thermostats, humidistats and timers.
- Comply with all applicable standards, policies, and procedures, including safety procedures and the maintenance of a clean work area.
- Must be able to understand verbal and written instructions.
- Will need to be able to kneel, squat, and stoop for long periods of time.
- Must be able to climb ladders, work in crawl spaces, and work overhead with no problems.
- Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
- Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
- Observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources.
- Servicing, repairing, adjusting, and testing machines, devices, moving parts, and equipment that operate primarily on the basis of mechanical (not electronic) principles.
- Keeping up-to-date technically and applying new knowledge to your job.
- Monitoring and reviewing information from materials, events, or the environment, to detect or assess problems.
- Estimating sizes, distances, and quantities; or determining time, costs, resources, or materials needed to perform a work activity.
Chiller Mechanics
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- At least five (5) or more years of experience in the HVAC trade in service, repair and maintenance of centrifugal, rotary and screw type chillers greater than 1000 tons.
- Thorough knowledge of refrigeration, chillers, HVAC, pneumatics, steam, condensate systems.
- Thorough knowledge of National and Local building, HVAC Codes.
- EPA "Universal" certification.
- Mature judgment and ability to work with little or no supervision.
- Maintain numerous mechanical, electrical and electronic components; including chillers, compressors, motors, boilers, oil, and propane fired furnaces, heaters, pumps, fans, ducts, pipes, steam, condensate, thermostats, switches etc.
- Performs difficult tasks involving assembly, testing, calibrating, and adjusting of temperature control and environmental control systems such as air conditioning plants, air environmental control systems, air distribution systems and complex dual equipment cooling installations, specialized refrigerated warehouses and facilities, and evaporative mechanical ventilation, and dehumidification systems.
- Repairs components and performs complex modifications of systems and components in accordance with applicable electrical publications and directives, and will maintain and repair specialized laboratory equipment such as fume hoods, de-ionized water systems, bio-clean systems, vacuum systems, cascade refrigeration systems, and laboratory sinks.
- Perform complex repair of systems component such as compressors, condensers, heat pumps regulators, fluid and refrigerant gas lines valves, meters, gages, thermostats, pumps, mechanical linkage, and electrical sensing, switching and controlling devices including pneumatic controls, variable speed drives, digital controlled devices, electronic, hydraulic heating and cooling and economizer systems and other components.
- Interpret wiring diagrams in order to locate failures.
- Work involves reviewing work layout from blueprints, drawings, models, and verbal and written instructions.
- Coordinates with other trade's personnel and the warehouse personnel in the identification of proper and correct materials, parts assemblies, and requirements for a variety of requisitions necessary for the job/task.
- Help perform periodic stock inventories and prepare material requisitions for replacement items as required.
- Uses a variety of hand tools, portable power tools, and standard measuring instruments. Respond to emergency site maintenance as required.
- Able to inspect and diagnose problems to determine and perform corrective repairs.
- Perform on call and preventive maintenance duties as necessary.
- Will be required to perform various lower classified duties such as (but not limited to) file maintenance, workspace cleanup, maintain warehouse space and telephone answering as required.
- Assists other trade groups in daily operations where required.
