The Medical Assistant performs administrative support functions with front desk and certain clinical duties under supervision of clinic psychiatrist. Welcomes consumers, check in preparation for visit, assists with obtaining medical information, verifies consumer information, schedules appointments, maintains medical records, insurance certifications/prior authorizations. Per psychiatrist, performs interviews as indicated to obtain clinical information, records medical history, vital statistics, and other pertinent information including test results in medical records. Authorizes drug refills and provides prescription information to pharmacies as authorized by prescriber. Prepares and administers medications as directed by psychiatrist. Explains treatment procedures, medications, diets or other prescriber instructions to consumers. Assists prescriber with examinations/treatment/equipment and inventory including giving injections or performing drug/laboratory test collection.
High School diploma or equivalent required. Completion of a medical assisting program recognized and accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES). Active certification by Association of Medical Assistants. CPR and First Aid certifications required. Completion of externship required. At least six months experience as certified medical assistant preferred.
