Position Details:
Deal effectively with individuals who may be ill, irritable, or otherwise hard to please.
Be alert to patients requiring immediate treatment.
Ensure that each patient treated is eligible for care and has complied with clinic enrollment procedures.
Deal tactfully with persons and extend a high degree of customer service to patients, subcontractor(s) staff and personnel, Health Net, and Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) personnel.
Ensure that the cleanliness and stocking of clinic rooms are done at least daily and as needed during the day.
Initial screening of patients, including eligibility of the veteran and active enrollment in the VA Primary Care Program.
Maintain universal precautions and infection control practices.
Provide nursing care based on provider’s direction to meet the needs (physical, mental and emotional) of patients.
Obtain initial information from patients (i.e., vital signs, symptoms, and complaints) through interviewing patients and reviewing record.
Prepare patients for examination and assist the Primary Care Provider (PCP) and/or the RN Manager upon request.
Perform specific delegated nursing procedures, including oxygen administration, venipuncture, automatic electronic defibrillator (AED), EKGs and removal of dressings, under the supervision of the PCP and/or the RN Manager.
Document all pertinent information in patient’s medical records and VISTA (Veteran Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture) to demonstrate quality care delivery and promote continuity of care.
Assist in maintaining the VISTA clinic reminder tracking system for each enrolled patient in accordance to site-specific VAMC protocols.
Assist the RN Manager in ensuring all patient information regarding access/wait time documentation is complete and accurate.
Prepare patients for examinations and serve as a chaperon, as required.
Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR/BLS) and assist during respiratory and cardiac arrest procedures.
Prepare patients for laboratory procedures by providing information and instructions.
Set up and operate therapeutic and emergency equipment.
Assist in scheduling patients for initial and follow‑up appointments in accordance to the VA access standards and the patient’s stated medical necessity.
Maintain patients informed regarding follow‑up appointments, lab and diagnostic test results as needed.
Coordinate supplies/equipment needs in conjunction with the RN Manager.
Provide health education materials and resources to patients and their families for informational purposes.
Ensure patient’s hard-copy medical record, if applicable, is complete following each day’s visit prior to returning medical record to medical records office.
Assist in maintaining the clinic’s compliance with all Federal, state, local, JCAHO, OSHA, VA, Health Net VA Program and Subcontractor safety and operational regulations, directives and standards.
Act as a liaison between the Health Net and the VAMC.
Maintain confidentiality of all information and support patients’ privacy, rights, and safety.
Participate in the ongoing Performance Improvement Program (PIP) between Health Net, its Subcontractor(s), and the VAMC.
Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
Experience/Qualifications Needed:
Graduate of an accredited high school or equivalent.
Retention of current CPR/BLS.
Retention of certification for medical assisting through accredited civilian/military program in the state in which the MA/MT practices.
Knowledge of and ability to demonstrate clinical and administrative procedures and techniques (i.e., vital signs, dressing changes, etc.).
Knowledge of standard patient charting documentation and procedures.
Knowledge of the basic concepts of customer service technique related to age-specific population.
Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills along with proper telephone etiquette.
Ability to provided educational material to patients and/or families regarding proper home health care activities, such as giving injections, taking blood pressures, changing wound dressings, etc.
Basic knowledge of computers.
Hours:
Monday through Friday, day shift.
