SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:  Responsible for the technical support of the production facility.  Activities will focus on improvement of yields, qualify processes, capacity, and efficiency as defined in the budget.  Ability to train and to effectively direct staff in a climate that promotes a safe and positive environment for all employees assigned to the facility.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Assists all plant departments ensuring that production practices are established and maintained which will ensure that product quality conforms to company and regulatory standards.  Continually monitor and suggest improvements to all cheese making operations.  Reinforce the quality of products and services from the plant are ensuring the highest level possible.  Responsible for ensuring that recoveries and product yields are maximized while the quality of all products produced.  Pays close attention to the performance of the production department centers and recommend corrective action and improvements as required.  Evaluates the performance of the production operations on all levels.  Continually seeks ways to improve both the financial and technical performance of the production departments.  Works close with the Assistant Plant Manager focusing on productivity levels which are appropriate to production levels.  Insists that safe work practices are followed on a continual basis including personal active involvement in the plant GMP and safety effort.

 

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION: Bachelors degree in Food/Dairy Science, Chemistry, Microbiology, Biology or related field.  At least 5 years of practical experience in a food-processing environment. Must be knowledgeable in composition, standardization and microbiology.  Cheese making expertise should range from cottage to Swiss cheese, from make through ripening to pack.  Personal qualities of tact and dependability and ability to work well with others required.  Strong communication abilities, written and verbal.  Knowledge of computer software.

STARTING SALARY:  Up to $95,000
