Chief Construction Cost Estimator 


 


Are you an experienced estimator for the commercial or government construction industry? A general contractor who focuses primarily on the Government market, located in Springfield MA, has an opening for an experienced Senior Construction Cost Estimator.  


 


Responsibilities and Desired Skills


 


  • Develop a complete survey / take off estimate prior to subcontractor input.
  • Compare subcontractor estimates against existing in-house estimates.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the general and subcontract documents, drawings and specifications, construction means, methods and materials
  • Knowledge of construction cost control and basic accounting procedures
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to write Past Performance and Technical Proposals is highly desired. 


  • Solicit and coordinate sub-trade bids and supplier quotations for labor, material and equipment to meet project specifications and budget requirements
  • Complete post-bid analysis on unsuccessful bids
  • Knowledge of building construction, materials systems, market conditions and trade practices.
  • Strong computer skills and familiarity with R.S. Means, Timberline and MS Project.
  • Relationship development and continuation with subcontractors, vendors, architectural, engineering, designers, respective professionals and company personnel
  • Qualifying and Soliciting subcontractors for price quotes with time sensitive deadlines
  • Self motivated professional capable of prioritizing work loads and completing tasks
  • Conduct quantity take-off and studies for all items incorporated in the project, anticipating details necessary to complete the project
  • Thorough review and updating of specifications and plans for conflicts and costs
  • Direct experience working on Federal, State or Government projects is a plus
  • Review proposal specifications, drawings, attend pre-bid meetings, etc. to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.
  • Maintain files of working documents as back-up for estimates figures.
  • Interface with owner, A/E, and other contractors to provide engineering and cost data regarding project feasibility.
  • Maintain a well organized approach & disciplined work ethic.
  • Perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction.
