Children's Friend is a leading provider of child welfare, family support, mental health, early childhood education, and child development services in Rhode Island.
Experiencing significant growth in its 175th year of service, Children's Friend is seeking a Chief Financial Officer.
The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for leading and managing the financial functions of the agency. This includes the Accounting, Billing, and Property Maintenance functions.
The successful candidate will be detail and results oriented, and have excellent communication, organizational, and analytical abilities. This individual will be able to successfully balance; managing and leading a department, while performing hands-on work in preparing and issuing financial statements and reports.
A Master's degree in Business Administration or a current CPA certification are required to be considered for this position. At least 7 years previous Accounting and supervisory experience are required.
Duties:
1) Coordinate and manage all fiscal activities of the agency.
2) Ensure that all agency financial records and transactions are properly authorized, fully documented, accurately recorded, and maintained according to all legal, best practice, and contract requirements.
3) Produce and distribute monthly financial statements which are timely and accurate.
4) Coordinate the agency’s annual budget process, ensuring a balanced and realistic budget is developed in accordance with the strategic direction of the agency.
5) Prepare and post all non-operating fund journal entries and produce financial reports, financial statements, and financial analysis for those funds.
6) Ensure that the agency has adequate insurance coverage for all exposures.
7) Directly supervise the Controller and Billing Supervisor.
8) Ensure that all tax, regulatory, and licensing filings are completed in an accurate and timely fashion..
9) Assist other managers and employees with their understanding of the agency’s financial operations through formal and informal communications.
10) Ensure that all purchases are made in accordance with all agency, federal, state, and contract specific policies and procedures.
11) Effectively manage the cash flow of the agency and ensure best practice cash management procedures are utilized.
12) Manage the Billing and Accounts Receivable function, ensuring a system exists for accurate and timely billing, collection, and recording of invoices and payments.
13) Know and provide backup to the Payroll function.
14) Work effectively with the Board, Finance Committee, and Policy Council to ensure that members are aware of and involved in key financial discussions and decisions.
15) Interact effectively and respectfully with others and particularly with individuals whose backgrounds and life experiences are different from one’s own.
16) Contribute to the overall success and quality of the agency by working constructively and collaboratively with other staff members to address programmatic and agency-wide issues and needs.
17) Constructively utilize formal and peer supervision to evaluate and improve effectiveness in providing services. This includes active participation in supervision, team meetings and agency meetings.
18) Pursue ongoing professional development through professional reading and attending relevant workshops and conferences (including Children’s Friend’s core training program if appropriate).
